We’re investing over £20 billion in homegrown solutions, building the world’s largest offshore wind farm, transforming the grid, and creating thousands of quality jobs. We recently completed refurbishment works at Perthshire’s iconic Tummel Bridge Power Station, the £50m project was one of the largest single investments we’ve made to our existing hydro fleet, and clearly supports hydro’s vital role in the path to achieving UK and Scottish net zero carbon emissions targets. 🎯 The hydro station has been a part of the energy landscape for generations and the investment will ensure this iconic and historic site continues to play a crucial role in Scotland’s energy mix for decades to come. We spoke to our Chief Commercial Officer, Martin Pibworth, about the important role Tummel plays in the energy mix and what the future holds for hydro and pumped storage...📹

It's #InclusionWeek and we're delighted to introduce our new Supplier Diversity Strategy. This highlights our commitment to expanding our network of suppliers and ensuring that diverse voices are part of our business ecosystem. This is not just about compliance; it's about doing what's right for our business and for society. We also encourage our current suppliers to follow suit and prioritise inclusion & diversity. Together, we can create a ripple effect that will positively impact communities, drive economic empowerment, and build a more equitable supply chain. At SSE, inclusion and diversity (I&D) isn't about one week a year, it's about embedding I&D into everything we do. This year we published our third annual I&D report which highlights the progress we have made since last year. We know the journey isn't over yet, but we're dedicated to continuing to work hard to make SSE inclusive and diverse. 🔗 You can download the report via the link in the comments below⬇️

At New York Climate Week, the world's leading utility companies have come together to encourage policy makers to make it easier to build the electricity grids needed to deliver net zero. We're proud to be members of the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA), with our CEO, Alistair Phillips-Davies being co-Chair. The UNEZA have committed to spending more than $116 billion a year on clean power generation and grid infrastructure but reforms are needed to deliver this. It is important for utilities to provide what certainty we can about our investment plans, while helping to inform policymakers’ journey towards a more strategic, collaborative and anticipatory approach that ensures we scale up in time to meet future demands.  We are therefore delighted to be collectively sharing these important contributions at New York Climate Week. We're proud to have a stand at this year’s National Ploughing Championships, an iconic Irish event that’s much more than just an agricultural showcase. Known simply as “the Ploughing,” this annual championship is one of the biggest outdoor events to take place anywhere in Europe, attracting almost 300,000 people over three days. Earlier this week, our team had the honour of meeting Taoiseach Simon Harris, where they presented him with information about our significant investments in Ireland’s homegrown energy. We were also delighted to speak with Minister for Enterprise, Peter Burke, and Minister of State with responsibility for Financial Services, Neale Richmond TD. The Ploughing is a fantastic platform for discussing Ireland’s energy challenges and connecting with policy makers and members of communities from across the country. If you are there today, please call in and see us at stand 242, located in the Dome Marquee! #ThePloughing ➡➡➡ .

Pleased to announce the launch today of a new industry-funded UCL Centre for Net Zero Market Design. Based at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources, the Centre will conduct and inject independent research to inform the reforms needed to deliver enhanced ambitions.   With a high-level Advisory Board, we aim to provide expert advice on the policies and practices for effective and efficient electricity markets as we decarbonise power systems in the UK and beyond. The Centre also will work with masters courses at UCL to support the development of new talent and expertise, to help policymakers and industry to tackle upcoming electricity system challenges. We are grateful for support to founding partners SSE, Centrica, National Grid, and Rothesay that brings us to this launch stage.  https://lnkd.in/evjA7Vcu
