For better or worse, AI is influencing all walks of life. Speaking to Maghan McDowell for Vogue Business this week, Simon Bain, CEO at OmniIndex discussed how AI has impacted the fashion industry, and explained the risks that come with it like the potential for 'AI hallucinations'. "AI hallucinations are mistakes caused by AI engines having insufficient or inaccurate information," Simon explains. In practice, these hallucinations can lead to the introduction of bias in results. “At best, this could limit the diversity of choices available to consumers. Hindered by astronomical training and inference costs, OpenAI could be on the brink of bankruptcy within 12 months following projections of losses amounting to $5 billion in 2024. Earlier this week, the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) released a report outlining the challenges that must be addressed to boost the hydrogen economy and support UK net zero ambitions. NPL pinpointed four key issues standing in the way of widespread hydrogen adoption: production, storage, distribution and end-use. NPL scientist Ali Al-Sikab discussed the report's findings with E T Magazine: "NPL is ready to work with government, industry and academia to solve the needs and challenges identified in the new report so that hydrogen technologies continue to gain momentum as a commercially alternative energy source that contributes significantly to the UK’s energy transition."
