At SolarAid, we believe that women must be at the forefront of rural #EnergyAccess programmes in order to achieve #SDG7. Traditional market models have failed to reach the poorest rural communities in #Malawi. Women entrepreneurs are vital in bridging this gap. As trusted members of society with vast social networks, they are well-placed to communicate the benefits of solar to female customers, the primary users of energy in the home, while building trust and demand. Through our Mayi Walas programme, we provide access to finance, training and support for local women entrepreneurs to create their own solar businesses accelerating progress towards universal energy access.
