Great to see our William Cooper out on site last week to train up the reservoir teams at Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water on how to use their newly purchased 3S Smart Portable Actuator. We supplied a full kit with accessories to cover every eventuality including handwheel operated valves as shown here and a torque booster for large and heavy turning valves. The teams were very impressed with our lightweight but powerful handheld actuator which means they now no longer need to carry generators to remote sites, they were also impressed at how easy this kit is to setup and operate. Great first day at ACE24 in California. Lots of interesting conversations with water utilities and fellow water supply chain partners. Once again fantastic to be a part of the Isle Global innovation booth. We enjoyed seeing water operators faces when they realise how quick and easy automation of a water distribution system can be. Another busy week for William Cooper last week working with a UK water company to install and commission 2 of our 3S 500D remote battery powered actuators for a rezoning and resilience project. These actuators were installed onto 2 existing valves, 1 x 400mm concentric butterfly valve and 1 x 300mm gate valve to automate these rezone valves which are used to switch supply for a city from bore holes in the winter to reservoir fed in the summer months. The operators in the control center can also utilize this solution if they need to rezone based on network operating conditions, maintenance requirements and to ensure the minimum levels in both water sources are maintained throughout the year based on weather conditions. Automating both of these valves was achieved in just one day and will provide large OPEX savings, health and safety benefits and allow the water company to reduce operational carbon output while increasing the resilience and flexibility of their water system. Also the teams liked the fact that all infrastructure is under a 600x600mm (12"x12") access cover with no need for planning to install kiosks and other unsightly infrastructure. Recently we have supplied customers with our 3S portable battery powered actuators with a twist. What's the twist i hear you ask? Customers want to use these actuators in pump houses and areas with mains power supply rather than using a battery, so we now supply mains power packs to suit any outlet. Pictured here are units with commando sockets to suit both 110V and 230V applications and we can also supply them with a standard wall plug suitable for any country and voltage. These are our standard portable actuators so can be used in the pump houses from the available mains power (great for valves with a very high torque and number of turns) and also taken out into the field to be used with our long life rechargeable battery packs. #multipurpose #mainspower #commandosockets #listeningtoourcustomers #thinksmart #smartactuation #3sactuators

Yet another installation of a 3S remote battery powered actuator for a UK water company this week commissioned by William Cooper. This actuator will control the valve on a service reservoir outlet to help balance flows and reservoir levels. Controlled using the customers SCADA system from a central control centre this actuator is part of a wider roll out project which will continue throughout 2024. This actuator was installed onto an existing gate valve without the need to replace the valve or install an on site PLC saving money and leaving a small install footprint. #thinksmart #smartactuation #reservoir #smartgrid #watermanagement

We were busy last week giving a demo of our 3S portable battery powered actuators to field teams for a UK water company. We used our torque tracking software to show the condition of the valves before and after exercising and were able to drop the max operating torque to half the values we saw on the first operation. Improving the operability of the valves and providing objective data to prove the results. Using the 3S smart portable actuator to track valve movements and utilising the calm networks functionality to ensure no transients enter the network is a great way to ensure safe valve operations and calm network operations while improving health and safety for workers. Another installation of a 3S remote battery powered actuator for a water company in the UK. This actuator was originally deployed on another valve in a different location to help deal with a short term resilience issue and has now been reployed onto another valve in a new location to add resilience and automated rezone capability in another part of the network. Installed in an existing chamber and bolted directly to an ISO top gate valve this was a very fast install to give immediate benefits to the water company. #thinksmart #smartactuation #resilience #rezoning #water

Day 2 of the world water tech innovation summit has been very interesting. The discussions with the representatives of US water companies and the US EPA highlighting the ways to reduce CSO incidents was very eye opening. Looking at utilizing “in network capacity” more effectively using sensors, Ai platforms and actuated valves in combination is something which has proven fast and effective in tackling CSO spills and improving water quality. More automation points in waste water and storm water systems as well as understanding how green infrastructure can positively impact this is clearly the key to fast results.
