Sharing some highlights from last week's Sleeper Sessions #5 in Tróia, Portugal. Over 200 guests gathered on the Comporta coastline for our 3 days programme of SYNC specifier supplier meetings, SYMPOSIA speaker driven talks, SUSTENANCE breakouts and workshops, and SOCIAL networking excursions, drinks and dinners. Highlights included dolphin spotting on a boat trip into the ocean, workshops exploring cork with Cédric Etienne, powered by Corticeira Amorim surfboard shaping with Rodrigo Machaz and Gonçalo Menezes and the wines of Alentejo with former BBC correspondent turned ecolodge entrepreneur Alastair Leithead not to mention a closing dinner at Cafe Comporta Sol Troia. Serdar Kutucu gave exclusive insights into forthcoming projects from Slowness in Portugal and beyond. Nini Andrade Silva, Jo Littlefair, and Samuel Torres de carvalho offered differing Portuguese perspectives, refracted through the work of their studios in Madeira, Porto and Lisbon respectively. Four new explorers at the forefront of authentic and sustainable hospitality – Gonçalo Pessoa of Sublime Hotels, José António Uva of Estúdio Lisboa / São Lourenço do Barrocal, Benjamin Habbel of Aethos Hotels and Rodrigo Machaz took guests to the frontier of Portugal's dynamic hotel scene. José Gil Duarte of Horwath HTL gave a succinct snapshot of economics and pipeline supply using THP - TOPHOTELPROJECTS data. Finally Emma King of IHG Hotels & Resorts, Juan Sainz de los Terreros Bustos of Hilton, Mark Eacott of Ennismore and Ana Ortega Miranda of Marriott International discussed designing for the modern business traveller and MICE reinvented. Huge thanks to all the Sessionistas who made the event such a success. Keep your eyes peeled for official photos and further video in the coming days.

Founder and MD of C9 Hotelworks, author of four books on travel, property and hospitality and with 35 years experience in the APAC region, Bill will lift the lid on development trends, looking at future pipeline and the hot-spots of tomorrow.
