I chose to go the degree route and missed out on my first choice Uni. At the time I was uncertain but it ended up being the motivation I needed to explore a different path ... and that’s useful, why? My pick for this week's 'Skills Street - what do kids want' insight is ➡️ Cooking 👩🏼🍳🍳 Food is a mechanism to bring people together. Brilliant to be at Nexus Multi Academy Trust this afternoon to hear Chris Hanson share an update on Chefs Counter, a local social #enterprise widening access to hospitality training and catering delivery, bringing food events to South #Yorkshire community spaces. Super excited for their latest venture, #notjustpinkcustard ...🩷 Empowering to also hear reflections from Hilary Chapman, calling on our region and the national economy to 'do better' with all things #education and skills. I'd love to talk to businesses who are passionate about food and hospitality, why? The value of experience ... By the age of 9, school pupils start to see social class in jobs and #career pathways. Where you're from shouldn't determine your long term future but how do we change perceptions of industry for those seemingly furthest from aspiration and employment? Start with teamwork, collaboration and an understanding of purpose. Over the past couple of weeks I've been working with connections linked to the Automotive industry, with a view to creating an immersive experience at Skills Street (watch this space ... 🏎🏁). Hugely thankful to Rachel Abbott and Rory Campbell-Pilling, two passionate advocates of #manufacturing, #engineering and all things design and development.
