We are dedicated to celebrating inclusion and taking action to create inclusive workplaces. As part of #NationalInclusionWeek we chatted with our colleagues Paul, Safiya, and Natalie who each told us what inclusion means to them personally.   To Paul, who’s a Senior Community Relations Manager at Sizewell C, it’s crucial to ensure that the team feel valued and included in everything they do. He also points out: “Health and safety isn’t just about PPE, plans, procedures and policies. Those things are important, but inclusion is included in health and safety.”   Safiya, who works as a Paralegal, spoke about how Sizewell C has personally helped her feel more confident in her role. She feels that being surrounded by like-minded individuals with shared inclusive values promotes collaboration and gives her the confidence to put herself forward. Finally, Natalie, a Case Safety Engineer, shared with us her onboarding experience during her transition journey and how the team went out of their way to make her feel welcomed and supported. As Natalie says: “It made me feel like the company would go to those lengths to help and support me and to make Sizewell C a great place for me to work.” At Sizewell C, inclusion matters and we will continue to work with our colleagues throughout the business to make everyone feel welcome, respected and valued. #ImpactMatters

"I will use every lever we have to win jobs and build new industries for Britain... This future means jobs constructing 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐧𝐮𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬." At the Labour Conference this week, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, made clear his commitment to ramping up nuclear capacity alongside other clean energy technologies as part of a plan to re-industrialise Britain. From Sizewell C to the SMR programme and the future of world-class sites like Wylfa, we are calling on the government to deliver on its promise of new nuclear projects to drive down emissions, create good, skilled jobs and strengthen energy security⚡ #netzeroneedsnuclear

This week marks #NationalInclusionWeek and as our project continues to move forward, it’s even more important that we recognise the vital role that diversity and inclusion plays in the workplace – both on site and in our office locations.   We’d like to thank inclusion expert and former GB Paralympian Claire Harvey, who joined us yesterday to share her empowering career story. It made us think hard about what inclusion really means and how we embed it in our organisation.    Her career is not short of outstanding achievements – from working in the criminal justice system through holding senior corporate positions to becoming the captain of the GB sitting volleyball team at the 2012 Paralympics, she has championed diversity and inclusivity. Her words resonated with many of our colleagues across the business: "We need people around us who are different. Who challenge and feel willing to say something different." Inclusion she says, is about making people feel safe, visible, and valuable. Without diversity, we miss opportunities to innovate, attract talent, improve our performance, and retain our staff. It is key to developing a high-performing environment.    At Sizewell C we’re already making strides in developing a gender-balanced workforce. The appointments earlier this year of Tilly Spencer as our Technical Director, and Katherine Horrell as our new Treasury Director mean the project’s leadership team – under the joint leadership of Julia Pyke and Nigel Cann – is now 55% female. Apprenticeship recruitment has been 50% female since the programme began in 2021, and our employed workforce is currently over 40% female.   We're focussed on creating an environment where everyone understands, respects, and embraces diversity. We have developed a Diversity and Inclusion Charter that provides the principles to ensure that everyone feels valued, encouraged, and supported and that Sizewell C is, and remains, an inclusive place to work.    However, there’s always more to do, especially in an organisation like Sizewell C going through rapid growth, so we’re continuing to make further progress.    #ImpactMatters at Sizewell C ✨

We’re opening up opportunities for the local community in Lowestoft through a new agreement with Access Community Trust.    The agreement will mean SAMS Wellbeing Hub and Café – one of four social enterprises delivered by Access Community Trust in the region – can extend its provision for those in need in Lowestoft, and become an important base for us to grow awareness and access to jobs at Sizewell C.   Sarah Hancock, HR Director at Sizewell C, said: “With construction well underway at Sizewell C, we’re at a significant point in our project – and our focus is on ensuring that local people, especially those furthest from the workplace, can access the opportunities this brilliant project provides.” “We’ll be working with the great Access team here in Lowestoft to engage with our supply chain and open up the thousands of jobs and opportunities for renewed skills and training.”    Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gSd-iaj6
