Worldcoin deprioritises Europe amid GDPR regulatory fight 🌍 A crypto biometrics project cofounded by Sam Altman, is shifting its focus away from Europe. Fabian Bodensteiner tells that the company is seeking to prioritise markets where local companies and governments are open to emerging technologies. “I would not say that [Europe] is a large focus,” he said. “We just see a larger dynamic in other regions of the world and because we’re not 1000 employees we need to prioritise where we see the biggest business opportunities.” Bodensteiner cited countries in the APAC region such as Japan and Malaysia, along with Latin American jurisdictions like Argentina, as more promising markets for its technology. Still reminiscing about last week's Sifted Summit… ⛰️ Every year this event just gets better and better, and a huge part of that is due to our partners — thank you for helping us to create an unforgettable two days. We hope all our attendees had the opportunity to explore the expo area, featuring some incredible creative stands designed by our partners. Here are just a few highlights pictured below: Deel got creative with a digital caricature artist, Pleo’s AirPod competition took off, HubSpot's delicious cookies were a crowd favourite, and Canva’s coworking space provided a peaceful spot for members needing to catch up on work. If you’d like to partner with us in 2025 please get in touch with the team below, we can’t wait to get planning already 🔮 https://lnkd.in/ezXq6jwY #siftedsummit #startupeurope #startupevent

Precision fermentation could be ‘the most important climate tech ever’ — so what’s holding it back? Precision fermentation — which involves brewing genetically modified microorganisms to produce new kinds of molecules and proteins — has a huge range of applications, from creating new food categories to producing personal care ingredients. So the possibilities are promising, but what’s stopping Europe’s precision fermentation startups from scaling up and onto shelves? #Ad with European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF) #climatetech Featuring Bernd Everaert, founder of AmphiStar, Jisk de Vries, investment associate at the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF) and Martin Plambech, CEO of Biosyntia.

Take your startup to new markets! 🗺️📍 It’s a tough journey to expand internationally, as a founder how can you make sure you get it right? Eshita Kabra, Founder and CEO of By Rotation, Nicolas Brusson, Cofounder and CEO at BlaBlaCar, Sahar Meghani, Partner at Visionaries Club and Duncan Clark, Head of Europe for Canva joined us this afternoon to share the do’s and don’ts for a seamless transition to a new environment. Three key strategic points to keep in mind… ✈️ International mindset from the start: The strength of European founders is growing as they increasingly think globally from day one — it's essential to have evidence of your international plans rather than just stating them. 🌏 Localisation and market adaptation: To successfully expand internationally, startups must localise their products and marketing materials, including translating interfaces and understanding cultural nuances, while maintaining a global perspective. 🤝 Building and managing remote teams: Have early discussions of how you will build a physical presence in the areas you’re expanding to. Positioning members with direct links to the organisation in overseas locations helps to strengthen connections and facilitate the integration of your company culture. #siftedsummit #globalexpansion #newmarket

🌍 Can Europe become the Silicon Valley of quantum? 🔍 Today at Sifted Summit, experts gathered to discuss Europe’s potential to get in the driver's seat for quantum technology. While Europe has historically lagged in various tech sectors, a deep pool of talented researchers and strategic government support have given Europe a chance to emerge as the global leader. What needs to be done to turn this into a reality? 👉 We know roughly what applications quantum can be used in but we still have to develop a market. One option is that the big chemical or drug companies become the clients. 👉 Our current approach to quantum technology remains rooted in classical thinking. To truly unlock its potential, we must explore or invent new applications that are quantum-native. 👉 Europe must foster a collaborative ecosystem where stakeholders work together in a spirit of competition and shared learning. 👉 Prioritise the transition away from existing schemes that are susceptible to quantum computer vulnerabilities to ensure Europe’s security and competitiveness. “It’s challenging to build a new industry which is why quantum is the most intellectually interesting part of our portfolio” - Michiel Scheffer, President of the Board, European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA). Thank you to our panellists for their valuable insights: Elvira Shishenina, Scientific Advisor - Moth, Steve Brierley, Founder and CEO - Riverlane, Michiel Scheffer, President of the Board - European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) and moderator John Thornhill, Founder and Editorial Director - Sifted. #quantumcomputing #deeptech #siftedsummit

The CMO’s new rule book 📖 In an ever-evolving landscape — is your strategy up to scratch? Let's take it to the panel. 🔹 Marni Allen, Chief Marketing Officer at Bioniq, discussed the challenges of taking on different markets across the US, UK and Middle East. She advised identifying your top-of-funnel strategy first to refine your product-market fit, concentrating your efforts on your most engaged market initially, and then adapt your approach as needed for expansion into other locations. 🔹 Fabio Bin, Cofounder and Chief Marketing Officer at WeRoad highlighted the necessity of staying focused on your value proposition. Steer away from communicating about the product and instead resonate with your audience through emotive tactics to remain top of mind when they come to the product consideration. A favourite quote from the panel — ‘ad equal content, content equal ad’ — Fabio’s mantra when thinking about what spend is appropriate. 🔹 Corinne Aaron, Chief Marketing Officer at Einride spoke about celebrity endorsements and how to leverage these through unpaid gifting. Ensure your celebrity endorsements align with your audience demographic, they can serve a powerful means of providing borrowed credibility to customers and investors — but be careful who you attach your brand to. Thank you to our moderator Anisah Osman Britton MBE, Startup Life Reporter at Sifted. #marketingstrategy #CMO #startupmarketing
