"My time as a Shout Volunteer has given me insight into what a typical day in the clinical psychology field may include and has confirmed this route is my preference." Alex didn’t know which area of psychology she wanted to go into after completing her degree in Psychology. To gain more experience, she signed up to be a Shout Volunteer. Since then, Alex has supported 301 texters in distress and gained a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience which gave her greater clarity on what to do next. She's since begun her Masters in Clinical Psychology. If you're currently studying and think volunteering for Shout could be a helpful experience for you but you want to know more, sign up for one of our two upcoming information webinars! Some key advice to new and returning uni students from Shout's Head of Psychology Research and Commissioned Training, Dr Ariele Noble 💜
🎥 Filming with iQ Student Accommodation has taken me back to the whirlwind of excitement and fear that comes with leaving home and building a new community—often for the very first time. My early university days were filled with insecurity, which is why it’s important to remind students that the connections we want to make begin from within. Prioritising our wellbeing—checking in, valuing our needs—is the foundation of all healthy relationships. I used to hear, "fake it 'til you make it," but I’ve since learned that 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐝. True confidence stems from self-care and self-awareness. So, to all the students stepping into this new chapter, I wish you instead 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. Because courage means embracing vulnerability, and vulnerability requires strength. As they say here in the UK—𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠. Wishing you all the best as you build your new communities.

This #WorldSuicidePreventionDay help us change the narrative by starting a conversation about suicide. Reach out to that friend, colleague, loved one, you never know the difference you could make. Talking about suicide can be emotionally challenging and it’s completely normal to feel anxious or overwhelmed afterwards. Take time for self care, or if you need to, ask someone you trust for support.

A massive thank you to the team at St Vincent's consulting for fundraising for Shout - taking on a huge 52km cycle that wasn't without its challenges! 🌧️ The money you have raised will help us support 67 people who are struggling with their mental health 💜
🎉 A Huge Congratulations to Our Cycling Champions! 🚴♂️ We’re happy to share that members of our St. Vincent’s team— Seonaid, Natasha, Jodie, Paul, and Wesley—took on the challenge of cycling a whopping 52km (32.3 miles) in the name of charity yesterday. We couldn’t be prouder of this amazing achievement! The weather had its own plans, but our heroes pedaled through it all, with the rain holding off just until the finish line. It wouldn't be Scotland without a bit of rain after all 🌦 This was all for two very special charities to our hearts: Mental Health Innovations (Creators of Shout UK): Providing 24/7 mental health support to those in need. Second Chance Dog Rescue: A UK-based charity rescuing dogs from abuse and giving them a brighter future. We’re delighted that the funds raised will make a significant impact on these essential services 💌 Stay tuned for more updates and highlights from the day next week. In the meantime, there’s still time to contribute to these worthy causes!
