we're excited to see another successful planning application this week - this time over in #sheffield at cannon brewery. the decision clears the way for the next chapter for the long-dormant stones brewery, empty since 1999, in the neepsend area of the city. our designs include the retention and repurposing of the most interesting buildings to become a buzzing new neighbourhood with over 500 homes, community and work spaces. the site will also include a lush urban park and a new public square with shops, cafés and spaces for pop-up events! read more here: https://lnkd.in/d5sMFQyP Sheffield City Council South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority Capital&Centric

About us
innovation • regeneration • transformation shedkm is an innovative RIBA registered architectural practice working from liverpool, manchester london. our work is rooted in regeneration. our distinctive approach results in bold, engaging schemes which are economically and socially transformative. shedkm practice socially responsive design. Our work demonstrates a people-first approach to placemaking, creating vibrant neighbourhoods and long-term social sustainability. we deliver innovation through strategic commercial thinking, a strong design rationale and modern construction methods deployed for speed and efficiency. our enterprising approach challenges design assumptions to add value for clients and end users. rigorous, rational yet playful, our ideas give buildings and places a strong identity which helps realise both commercial and social ambitions. building on the strengths and emotional connections inherent in the built and social fabric of a city, our thoughtful interventions create a rich and sustainable sense of place. each scheme is considered as a piece of the city, the spaces between as important as the individual buildings in expressing heritage, community and place. from our studios in london and liverpool, where we were established 25 years ago, we continue to be at the forefront of regenerative placemaking, with a UK-wide portfolio of transformational schemes, and vibrant new city neighbourhoods rooted in the historic urban grain. creating desirable places in which people want to live and work, impacts the economic viability of development and unlocks long-term commercial opportunity. shedkm works in partnership with clients to offer flexibility, pragmatism, and a proactive approach to problem solving. we are adept at working within the constraints of tight urban sites or limited budgets, maximising opportunities within a brief to add value.

we're excited to see planning approval for #dunedinstreet in #edinburgh for HUB! we've designed 65 new high-quality student homes with a biodiverse roof terrace, as part of the wider regeneration of the cannon mills area with its rich industrial history. sharp details and bold highlights, including our signature shedkm yellow, distinguish the plot alongside a carefully responsive landscape design from MRG Studio. https://lnkd.in/geED82mc with Atelier Ten Civic Engineers Knight Frank 📷 Secchi Smith #studentaccommodation #studentliving #planningapproval

for over 25 years we’ve been bringing disused buildings back into daily use to drive positive social change within the community around them. we work with the existing building to consolidate its inherent strengths and moments of historic emotional connection which can express heritage, community and place. retrofit today still has the power to signal change, while embracing the existing community within a redevelopment... that’s why we’re so pleased that our retrofit of eyewitness works in sheffield for Capital&Centric, with Twentysix Architects, has been recognised in the ‘adaptive reuse’ category of the Architects’ Journal retrofit awards - which showcases the best conversion and repurposing of existing buildings into new uses. read more about eyewitness works here: https://lnkd.in/e7u84DmP and view the full shortlist here: https://lnkd.in/ei27u3pd

Such a fantastic evening last night with Build The Way C.I.C at the end of year showcase, celebrating this years BTW trainees Iman Yasin, Jamila Saha and Zanib Naveed. A great way to round off 9 months of work in practice and at The London School of Architecture ahead of embarking on the next steps of their careers. Working with the 3 trainees to deliver the showcase meant I was very proud to see the payoff of all their hard work and it was great to see each of them sharing their experience with friends, family and professionals. It’s been a privilege to be part of this amazing programme with shedkm working alongside other likeminded practices GPAD HUT Architecture Morrow Lorraine and I’m looking forward to meeting next years growing cohort! Thank you to Solus for being excellent hosts and continuing sponsors and advocates of the BTW programme. Thanks to Maz Weineck, Stephen Setford and LAB-083 for your time and help with prototyping and fabrication. If your practice is interested in getting involved in helping grow this programme, please reach out and applications for next years trainees are now open; https://lnkd.in/eNCmqBVz #BuildTheWay #traineeship #architecture #art Charles Bettes Andrew Whiting Rachael Davidson Jean-Jacques Lorraine Annie S. members of shedkm’s environment atelier from our liverpool, london and manchester studios all got together yesterday for a visit to the retrofit24 exhibition at the building centre and site visit to our own retrofit of zodiac house in croydon. at shedkm we are firm believers in the environmental, social and economic benefits of reusing our existing building stock and our earliest projects have been case studies for the imaginative repurposing and upgrading of existing structures. retrofit24 showcased many of the themes we have explored in our own work for the last 27 years. zodiac, where we are taking a locally significant but disused commercial building to create a strong high street presence with new community uses, builds on our extensive experience. we also enjoyed some lively discussions around further developing our in-house sustainability strategy, reducing our carbon impact and improving staff health and well-being. #retrofit24 #retrofit #reuse #regeneration #sustainability #environmentaldesign #wellbeing #lowcarbondesign
