Last week Shaping Portsmouth's Community lead Kirsty Hill and the wider team hosted The Girls' Network mentoring coffee morning here at The Guildhall Trust. What a turnout and an inspring morning hearing all about the great work they do to Inspire, Empower and Mentor young women from the least advantaged communties accross the city of Portsmouth 💙 We feel lucky to have the support of so many organisations accross the city and we wanted to say a huge thankyou to each and every one of you that spared a few hours to come along. A big Congratulations to Renata Sims and Paula Falck from The Girls Network for creating such an engaging and insightful event. I know that the room felt both inspired and hopeful that the impact of this programme is creating a safer and more creative space for the Young Girls of Portsmouth. Shaping Portsmouth promote the importance of mentoring resources and see great value in women sharing their life experiences and career journeys to empower young women. This weekend saw the 16th Southsea Food Festival taking place in Palmerston Road, Osbourne Road, Clarendon Road and Avenue De Caen. Shaping Portsmouth CEO David Humphries took on the tough job of representing us and sampling as much as he could. Despite a very overcast start to the weekend, the crowds were out in force and eventually, the sun was too! Great to see such a diverse mix of fantastic local food businesses on show reminding us that Portsmouth is not just the number one UK city in which to invest, live, learn, work and visit but also eat!

Last night, 17th July, saw around 60 of Shaping Portsmouth’s partners come to the Spinnaker Tower for an exclusive evening of drinks, nibbles and networking. The evening started with a brief introduction from Shaping Portsmouth CEO David Humphries and Shaping Portsmouth Partnerships Manager Robyn Jacquest, before opening up the buffet and beginning the networking. The 73 financial partners of Shaping enable us to carry out the work we do with our committed volunteers, so to be able to get most of them together to say a thank you and to allow them to meet other Shaping partners was truly wonderful. The Shaping Portsmouth Skills and Employability Management Board works with key partners, to respond to local skills and employability priorities. Today we had our first Skills and Employability Management Board meeting since merging with the PCC Skills Provider Hub. Joint chaired by PCC's Stephanie Parker MBA CMgr MCMI and Shaping Portsmouth's David Humphries, we have a group of partners strong in expertise, experience and resources collaborating to achieve skills and employability outcomes across Portsmouth. Good to update on some of Shaping Portsmouth's programmes including Choose Employability, Apprenticeship Bus, Explore Your Future and Youth Employment. We're thrilled to celebrate the incredible innovation and collaboration on our Portsmouth Business Support Service Programme, delivered in partnership with Portsmouth City Council. Last week, we had the pleasure of celebrating the incredible students of City of Portsmouth College at their Highbury campus. These talented IT students provided invaluable support to local entrepreneur Luca Frederick by building an app for his business, LocalLinked. This collaboration perfectly showcases the transformative power of the Portsmouth Business Support Service (PBSS). Through the Shaping Portsmouth Mentorship Scheme, Luca was connected with two of our partners: Brian Harpur BA FCA CTA of GRP Solutions Ltd, who provided invaluable mentorship, and the brilliant students of City of Portsmouth College, who tackled the challenge of developing his app. In a fantastic work experience arrangement, the students were split into teams and tasked with presenting their app ideas. The quality of their work was so outstanding that choosing just one winner proved impossible! As a result, we celebrated TWO winning teams and awarded certificates of recognition to ALL participants. Last Thursday, we were honoured to present certificates and prize money to the winning teams, along with a big thank you to everyone who supported Luca on this journey: The amazing students, the College and lecturers, GRP Solutions, Spark Community Space, and everyone else involved. Your contributions made this a huge success story! This story is a testament to the power of collaboration and community support in fostering local entrepreneurship and innovation. When talking to Sarah Roads and her team It's immediately clear to see that she has created an inspiring and safe working culture 😊 With Sarah's moto of "Work hard and fast" her currently all female team (not intentional it just happened that way) are offered flexible working patterns, providing a more holisitic approach for working parents as well as a commission structure that promotes and recognises the importance of hard work and dedication to the business. Sarah and her team have a huge interest in giving back to the city of Portsmouth with 10% of their profits going directly back into the community in some way. The city’s education workforce came together to celebrate two decades of service at an awards ceremony held at Portsmouth Guildhall. Teach Portsmouth, a Portsmouth City Council service, organised the event, as part of two initiatives that reward and recognise staff in the city’s schools and academies. 87 people from primary, secondary and special schools were put forward by their peers to attend an afternoon tea and awards ceremony.
