MMT's Nicky and Tom spent some time volunteering for Dove House Hospice earlier this week de-weeding and laying gravel ready for their new venture 'The Market' by Dove House, which is opening on Saturday 20 July. The Market is on Malmo Road in Hull, and it's all about re-use, re-purpose and re-loving items from fashion to homeware. The opening event on the 20th is set to be a great day with sustainable shopping, plus entertainment from local artist Chiedu Oraka (who recently played at Glastonbury 2024). You can head there from 10:30am. You can find out more about The Market here: https://lnkd.in/d_nKmxnU #Volunteering #DoveHouse #NewVenture #LocalSupport

How can the education sector prepare for Net Zero, whilst meeting current needs? Stephen Dam, our retrofit lead, says these four steps are crucial to getting carbon reduction right for both you and your building. Hierarchy of needs: using a holistic approach to understand baselines and long term building needs Carbon Reduction Plan: understanding the benefits, risks and impacts of projects Feasibility: getting the basics right Trade-offs and long-term views: making the best decision available to you Understanding these principles and incorporating them into your decarbonisation decisions is the key to avoiding unnecessary costs and stress, whilst benefitting your estate as a whole. Did you know it’s Net Zero Week? Running from the 6th to the 12th July, Net Zero Week™ is the UK’s official national awareness week, and holds the biggest online net zero conference, so that ideas and innovations can be shared amongst businesses and clients. Across our businesses, we’ll be using this week to raise awareness of how to decarbonise your estate correctly – in order to minimise negative environmental impact, and costs. Our Finance Director Simon Davison was at an eoa event this week talking to fellow businesses about our shared ownership journey. It was fascinating to hear the experiences other co-owned companies have had as more and more organisations move to an employee ownership model.
Dozens of eoa members came together this week at RSM’s Leeds HQ to explore the approach, governance, and structure of Great EO. Logistics leader The Cardinal Partnership shared its incredible route to employee ownership. There were plenty of highlights from CEO Brian Hay on preserving the company’s values and culture. Brian also shared his knowledge by taking questions from the audience. Then there was an insightful Q&A with an EO panel made up of: Hannah Welch from Baxendale Employee Ownership Simon Davison from Sewell Group John Lister from RPCuk They answered questions on Employee Trustees, understanding EO awareness, new starters, financials, using EO as your USP. And more! But you’ll have to read our full write up to find out more and read some of the panel’s insights. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/egN8H-Js #Logistics #Business #Finance #EmployeeOwnership

According to the Construction Industry Training Board, over 250,000 extra construction workers are needed by 2028 to meet the expected levels of work in the UK alone. As ambassadors for the construction industry, we’ve been getting out and about speaking to young people to encourage them to consider careers in STEM. https://lnkd.in/eYzRWCZ5 #STEM #Construction #Careers #Support
