The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is the organisation responsible for regulating the UK private security industry
About us
This the official LinkedIn page for the Security Industry Authority, the organisation responsible for regulating the private security industry. We are an independent body reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. Our mission is to regulate the private security industry effectively; to reduce criminality, raise standards and recognise quality service. Our remit covers the United Kingdom. We have two main duties. One is the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry; the other is to manage the voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria. SIA licensing covers manned guarding (including security guarding, door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, and public space surveillance using CCTV), key holding and vehicle immobilising. Licensing ensures that private security operatives are ‘fit and proper’ persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job. If you see or hear about someone in the private security industry committing a crime or you are concerned, we want to know. Please report it via our webpage Report a Crime and Concern https://www.gov.uk/report-security-staff-or-companies or anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Our Chair Heather Baily and Chief Executive Michelle Russell along with members of our senior leadership team visited various locations in Manchester and London and met private security operatives on International Security Officers Day. They thanked security operatives working on the front line for the important work they do to keep the public safe, and heard from them firsthand about their role and the types of challenges they face in their work. #ISODay24 #ThankYou #InternationalSecurityOfficersDay The City Security Council

🗓️ Today is International Security Officers’ Day. International Security Officers’ Day is held each year on 24 July to represent the 24/7 nature of security work. If you come across a security officer today, you can show your appreciation by saying thanks. A simple greeting or ‘thank you’ can go a long way in brightening someone’s day. Or you can write to us. While we don’t employ security operatives, as the regulator of the private security industry, we would like to learn about your experience of interacting with licensed security operatives. Have you been helped by a security operative recently? Visit our campaign page and click on ‘Share your story’. https://orlo.uk/CDR1H #SIAat20 #ISODay24 #UKSaysThankYou #ThankYou #InternationalSecurityOfficersDay

🗓️ Today is International Security Officers’ Day. Over the past year, we’ve heard from SIA licence holders who’ve supported a bereaved family in hospital, prevented a distressed young person at a concert causing themselves a severe injury, and helped a young woman in a nightclub after a suspected spiking incident. Many security operatives came forward to share some of the challenges they face in their work, and the training that helps them to be prepared in different circumstances. If you have a story to share, visit our campaign page and click on ‘Share your story’. ➡️ https://orlo.uk/2RZX8 As the regulator of the private security industry, we wish all licensed security operatives happy International Security Officers’ Day. Thank you for keeping the UK safe. #SIAat20 #ISODay24 #UKSaysThankYou #ThankYou #InternationalSecurityOfficersDay

“Throughout the year, private security operatives are the invisible blanket we rely on being there to deter, and prevent, harm and disorder. They are who we rely on in times of trouble or incident. We all owe them our thanks and support. If you are a private security operative – thank you, for doing your job 24/7, 365 days a year, to keep everyone safe and our premises protected.” ➡ Read the latest blog in the SIA at 20 series from our Chief Executive Michelle Russell, as she closes the series of stories to mark 20 years of private security industry regulation. Today is International Security Officers’ Day and Michelle reflects on some real-life examples that demonstrate how the work of private security operatives helps to protect the public, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. ➡ https://lnkd.in/gmZUUfyW #SIAat20 #ISODay24 #InternationalSecurityOfficersDay #ThankYou

Hiring security for an upcoming event? Please remember that those who use labour supplied by other parties remain responsible for ensuring that the supplied licensed operatives hold a valid and genuine SIA licence. You must undertake appropriate due diligence. We are encouraging all suppliers of security to continue to ensure that the SIA licence produced at `check-in’ is physically checked and is valid. ➡️ Read our blog with reminders on easy-to-check security features of genuine SIA licences. https://orlo.uk/dlr4Q
