📸 'The medium of photography can share so much that sometimes can never be spoken. This exhibition shows the experiences of people as they navigate their way through diagnosis, treatment and follow-up in a way that is brave, honest, and heartfelt.' - Helen Stradling, Sarcoma Specialist Nurse and Support Line Manager at Sarcoma UK At Sarcoma UK, we're proud to support the powerful "Close to the Bone" photography exhibition alongside Bone Cancer Research Trust. This unique display by photographer Caroline Seymour offers an intimate look at the journey of primary bone cancer patients, reminding us that no one faces this isolating diagnosis alone. You can view Close to the Bone at The Royal College of Surgeons of England in London. - 15 August – 7 September 📅 - 10am – 5pm Get your free tickets here: https://ow.ly/1srg50SHUW1 If you are interested in attending the London launch night of the exhibition on Wednesday 14 August at 6pm please e-mail us directly: [email protected]

‘My tumour was the size of a snooker ball!’ Yesterday, we introduced you to Jake, a patient diagnosed with synovial sarcoma. Jake’s journey began in 2015 when he first experienced pain in his hip. In 2016, he visited his GP, who suggested it might be sciatica. For the next two years, Jake struggled with lots of pain to the point where he collapsed in agony on his driveway. After being misdiagnosed and treated for months, he was referred to RNOH for a biopsy, which confirmed synovial sarcoma. By then, the tumour was around the size of a snooker ball. Almost one-third of sarcoma diagnoses come from a GP referral. Our Early Diagnosis Steering Group works to improve early detection and advance sarcoma education. We have developed an accredited online training module to enhance GPs' diagnostic skills and created a video to educate medical students and junior doctors. This initiative aims to reduce diagnostic delays and improve patient outcomes through focused education and training. Learn more about these initiatives and access the training resources here sarcoma.org.uk/sam #SarcomaAwarenessMonth #DontDelay

Early diagnosis is critical. For Sarcoma Awareness Month this year, we're focusing on the critical issue of prompt diagnosis through our "Don't Delay" campaign. Our research shows that 1 in 3 people see a healthcare provider for over 6 months before being correctly diagnosed, causing immense anxiety and loneliness. By learning the signs of sarcoma and not delaying contacting your GP if you experience symptoms, we can work together to improve early detection and save lives. Learn more about our vital research, which aims to create a future in which sarcoma is diagnosed earlier, and patients receive the best possible care click here. https://lnkd.in/eNCwXVJs #SarcomaAwarenessMonth #DontDelay #Charity #Sarcoma
