🌍 We're thrilled to announce the 172-metre deep borehole works at Tollesbury School have started during the first week of school summer holidays. These are part of a £1.6million green project led by Essex County Council alongside the school community. At a celebratory event on Thursday representatives from the school, contractors Mitie, council officials, Tollesbury Climate Partnership and a team from Salix, joined forces to cheer the work on. Headteacher Kate Garnett said: “We are thrilled to have progressed the project to this point. “We talk a lot about decarbonisation with the children and all the issues around energy and climate change. “We want the children to take these messages home to their families and to the wider community. “We have grown ever more mindful of the financial benefits of cutting energy costs, taking environmental responsibility, and protecting the future for the next generation. “It has been important to us to include the pupils in this project from the beginning. This project is an important educational tool when it comes to carbon literacy.” #Sustainability #GreenInitiative #Community #EssexCountyCouncil #TollesburySchool #ClimateAction Read more 👇 https://lnkd.in/eR7ZCYH6

🌍 Exciting Day in Essex 🌍 It’s great to meet the people behind the Tollesbury School decarbonisation project. We’re in Essex today to witness the start of excavation work for the installation of a ground source heat pump at the village school. This significant step towards sustainability is made possible largely due to the funding from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. #greenenergy #sustainability #communityimpact #publicsector

Schoolchildren amongst those set to benefit from a net zero initiative led by the local council 🏫 The project, led by Glasgow City Council, will see solar panels installed at five primary schools: Haghill Primary School, Dalmarnock Primary School, St Bernards Primary School, Camstradden Primary School and Castleton Primary School. Earlier this year, we were on site at Haghill Primary School to speak with stakeholders about the works and accompanying climate education programme set to roll out across the schools. Learn how primary school children from Leeds inspired their community and saw the school pledge to become net zero by 2030 to take action in the pivotal ‘climate decade’. 🏫 The school secured a grant of £170,920 from Phase 3a of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme to install a ground-source heat pump as a heating and hot water solution. 🔥 By replacing its gas boilers with a ground-source heat pump, the school eliminated the carbon dioxide that would otherwise have been released into the atmosphere. 💡 The school also upgraded to LED lighting to increase efficiency and reduce electricity usage. ✔️ This project has resulted in annual carbon savings of 15 tonnes in addition to significant financial savings. 🔙 A little hashtag#ThrowbackThursday case study from July 2023 #psds #school #primaryschool #decarbonisation #salix #publicsector #leeds #yorkshire #netzero

Wolfson College, Oxford is a University of Oxford college located in north Oxford along the River Cherwell. They have set a particularly ambitious target to become net zero by 2030 and this means decarbonising their inefficient, 1970s-built estate 🏢 To support their endeavours, they received funding through Phase 2 and Phase 3a of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. This funding has enabled them to embark on a large programme addressing fabric inefficiencies through glazing and insulation upgrades. They also replaced gas-based heating with air source heat pumps. The projects have enabled the college to achieve their net zero target six years earlier than planned, a feat they say would not have been possible without the opportunities unlocked through funding provided via the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme 👏 In the video, Sir Tim Hitchens, president of Wolfson College, said: “This has not simply been a building project. This has been a transformation of the way the whole community of the college works and works together in a way that wouldn’t have been possible without the trials, but also the successes of this programme.” Head to our Youtube to watch the full documentary to hear more from Wolfson College president Sir Tim Hitchens, plus more success stories from the nine organisations interviewed. 📽 https://lnkd.in/eQ_b6Cw4 #Decarbonisation #PublicSectorDecarbonisationScheme #PSDS
