I don’t know about you but I’m really looking forward to the long Bank Holiday weekend. Firstly, where on earth has this year gone? The months have literally flown by! Before we know it Christmas will be upon us! It’s been an interesting quarter. Some real signs of an improving market but still some caution in the air. It’s been really difficult to predict. As we come out of the Summer period, we’re feeling a lot more confident - over 70% of our clients are seriously hiring for growth (an improvement of 20% on the previous quarter) and we’ve made some fantastic placements in the last six weeks with a healthy pipeline ahead. I’m also delighted with the amount of referrals we are receiving. A huge thank you to the clients who have entrusted us with their recruitment so far this year. The Recruiters who have entrusted us with their careers and of course to my team at Ruella James who have been fantastic! Thank you to everyone who follows us and likes and comments on our posts. It’s very much appreciated! Wherever you are doing over the Bank Holiday weekend. Relax and enjoy! The final push towards the end of the year is coming and I predict that it’s going to be a big one in the R2R space. I hope it is for you too! #rec2rec #londonopportunities

There’s a lot of movement in the Recruitment market right now. And I’m amazed by the number of unpleasant stories we hear when a Recruiter decides to move on from their current company. Today, I want to share a personal experience. Many years ago I made the difficult decision to resign from a company where I had dedicated my time and energy for several years. As is customary, I notified the owner of the business and expected a conversation about my departure. However, to my surprise, the owner didn't bother to acknowledge my decision, express gratitude for my contributions, or even seek to understand why I had chosen to leave. This experience left me feeling undervalued and unappreciated. After years of hard work and dedication, it was difficult to reconcile the lack of acknowledgment and interest displayed by someone I had admired and respected. It made me realise the tremendous impact that a simple act of gratitude and open communication can have on an employee's perception of an organisation. Appreciation is not just a nicety; it is a fundamental driver of employee engagement and retention. When employees feel appreciated, they are more likely to go the extra mile, contribute their best efforts, and remain loyal to the organisation. To the organisations that embody this spirit of appreciation, you have a tremendous advantage in attracting and retaining top talent. As for me, this experience reinforced the importance of appreciation and empathy in the workplace. It has fuelled my commitment to work with Recruitment Firms that not only recognise their teams contributions, but also create an environment where everyone feels appreciated and supported, even when they leave! So, who’s with me? Do you think it’s important for employees to have the same positive experience when exiting a business, as they did when you on-boarded them? BACK DOOR HIRES! 😮 I was really impressed last week when a long standing client who’d not recruited in a while, rang me to let me know that they had re-approached a candidate that we’d introduced to them 9 months ago. In addition the candidate rang me as well. I high-light this as I’m aware that this doesn’t always happen, that there are companies out there who’ll try and flex your terms to get a candidate for free that you’ve previously introduced to them, and candidates who’ll say nothing to the Recruiter who previously represented them. It’s happened to us several times in the past 25 years. For the record in those cases where it happened, we’ve always received the fee we were owed due to having strong signed terms of business and great legal representation. ⚖️ Has this ever happened to you? Did you pursue the fee and win? Interested to know outside of the R2R space if this is common particularly over the past 24 months. Let me know in the poll below and feel free to share your experiences/thoughts in the comments. 🙏

  • Are your team proud to work for your Recruitment Firm?

I’ve heard a few ‘horror stories’ about the recruitment industry over the years. And in truth it amazes me that there are business owners out there not doing more to protect their brand. The quote below really hit home for me this morning. Because having a team that is proud to work for you is crucial. Firstly, when employees are proud of their work and the organisation they represent, they are more motivated, engaged, and committed to achieving the company's goals. This pride leads to increased productivity, better teamwork, and a more positive work environment. Secondly, a team that is proud to work for you is likely to be more loyal and have higher job satisfaction. This reduces turnover rates, saves on recruitment costs, and fosters a sense of stability within the organisation. Moreover, employees who take pride in their business, are more likely to deliver high-quality results. Driven to excel, take ownership of their tasks, and consistently strive to improve their performance. Additionally, a proud team serves as a strong brand ambassador for the company. Their enthusiasm and commitment reflect positively on the organisation, leading to an enhanced reputation and credibility among customers, partners, and stakeholders and very importantly future employees! As the market picks up, and it is, I’m putting the finishing touches to a document outlining what you need to be looking at, when it comes to enhancing your brand and your EVP to ensure that you’re attracting, retaining and hiring the best consultants to your business in the second half of 2024. DM me privately if your’re interested in seeing a copy! Do you agree that your reputation matters in recruitment? #rec2rec #recruitment

This week felt like a huge turning point. I have genuinely lost count of the number of new roles we have registered and the improvement we have seen in the number of interviews arranged. This isn’t intended to be a brag post, just to reassure those Recuiters who’ve been nervous to move, or those 360 Recuiters who are still looking for roles that there is a brighter Recuitment future out there. 2024 has been nothing but a roller coaster for many of us. Yet, we're hearing more and more from our network about how much improvement they've seen and we’ve taken roles from new as well as from our existing database, from Junior to Senior Level and everything in between in the London market which is where we specialise. These are planned and budgeted, with each one having a strong business case behind them. The one that made my heart soar the most is Tech into Financial Services - Account Management / Delivery - truest sign of demand on the rise! And the rest? Business Support | Finance | Change & Transformation | HR | Marketing | Private Equity | Tech | Real Estate | Legal/Fashion I could go on …. I know we've all seen the blips this year - feels like it's going in the right direction, then goes backwards 🤷♀️ Yet, this amount of opportunities, across these sectors and at all levels - I've not seen this for a long time (and we've been doing this for 25 yrs!) This isn't the pent-up demand we saw in 2021/2022 - but more like the normality of 2019. Feels right and feels good 💪 Hope this gives you confidence if you're thinking of making a move. And even if you're not, the R2R market is a great barometer for the health of the industry - so I hope this puts a little spring in your step today 🤸♀️ 🤸♂️ Want to know more? • Should I stay or should I go?

Do you stay...or do you go? In my experience, recruiters have this dilemma frequently 🤔 For all sorts of reasons it's not working out and affecting their performance. But, they're worried how it will "look" and explain on interview if they've resigned or already left. They're nervous it might seem they can't hack it, work through difficult situations and lower their value now they're available immediately. Plus, they can't afford to just leave without the secure knowledge they're not going to miss a month's salary. And yet.... 😔 The environment they're in is so detrimental that their output and results are absolutely no reflection on their hard-work, talent and tenacity. It's a vicious circle, the longer they're there, the worst it's getting and in their mind, their value is going down as their performance worsens. Would you resign without another job to go to? Let me know in the poll below. Remember only I can see how you vote!

What is the one thing about looking for and securing a new role, that people don't mention? It's lonely! Only you can make that final decision to have your details presented with another recruitment business - often a competitor. Only you can go through the personal wait of "will they, won't they?!" Only you can do the lion's share of preparing for the interview Only you can attend the interview. Only you can digest, reflect and process the feedback you receive. Only you can ultimately decide if another stage is worth your while. Only you can do the "self talk" to keep going until that ideal opportunity is offered. Only you can conclude how you feel if the package, culture, people, future is "the one". Only you can have that resignation conversation. I really (really!) do get it. That's the reason why I chose THIS feedback to share with you 👇 And remember I do exactly the same job as you, and hopefully this gives you a double dose of peace of mind. I can't wave magic wands but I can "walk a mile in your shoes". If you don't want to go it completely alone - I'm here. Have a great week. Ruella x #rec2rec #recruitment
