We're sad to be saying farewell to our Chief Executive, Chris Sherwood at the end of our 200th year, but we couldn't be happier that he's joining the amazing NSPCC. Creating a kinder world for animals starts with children. We are already part of the NSPCC's story, having supported their founding in 1884. We continue to work closely today, with our frontline team reporting potential child protection issues they encounter during their animal cruelty and neglect investigations. Chris has led our organisation over the last 6.5 years through difficult times such as the Covid pandemic and the cost of living crisis, and we're proud of what we've achieved for every kind under his leadership. Good luck, Chris, and thank you for everything 💙

We're no stranger to the rescue and rehabilitation of seals, as this extract from our 1961 'Seals in the Wash' film shows 🦭 Seal pups are weaned at 3-4 weeks old so may be seen alone but be perfectly happy and healthy. You can help create a kinder world for animals by knowing how and when a seal pup might need your help: https://bit.ly/3Xqm7mb

We’re pleased to hear that the UK Government plans to bring an end to badger culling in England by 2029, switching to a vaccination strategy to tackle Bovine Tuberculosis 🦡 Sadly over 230,000 badgers have been needlessly killed in the last decade, and we’re worried that they will still face another five years of unnecessary culling. For many years we've been calling for a science-led solution which protects cattle without harming badgers, so we’re hopeful that today’s news marks a positive change in the fight against Bovine Tuberculosis. #AnimalWelfare #BadgerCull #BovineTB

Lock yourselves in for a heartwarming story this International Dog Day... 10-year-old Staffy Rookie came into RSPCA Birmingham Animal Centre and Hospital's care two years ago, severely emaciated and in need of extended hospitalisation. Whilst our investigation and prosecution case was underway, Rookie found himself with lovely fosterers, Malcolm and Brenda. Earlier this week, they got in touch with us as Rookie wasn't himself. The team carried out emergency surgery to remove his spleen and a mass, while we all feared the worst. The day after his surgery, we received news that he had finally been signed over for good, and he soon started to recover! Rookie's lab results have since come back as benign, and he has now been officially adopted by his fosterers who couldn't resist his contagious joy 🎉 Resilient Rookie's journey has been a rollercoaster and his fosterers have changed both his life and tens of other dogs' lives who have been able to use his saved kennel space. We're so happy that he will get to spend his retirement being adored. There's a role for every kind of person in animal welfare. Fostering plays a crucial part in animals' recoveries and we're so grateful to those who make a difference to animals in need!
