Join Nikki Barker MHort (RHS), RHS Peat Free Transition Project Co-ordinator, in our online event to hear her experience of studying for the RHS Master of Horticulture Award. Find out why she decided to study for the degree-level award, and the opportunities that have followed as a result, such as becoming a published author. “I have worked across many sectors of horticulture during my career but studying for the MHort gave me a greater understanding of how research and development can be a positive influence on the horticultural industry. One of the most rewarding parts of my current role now is giving gardeners the knowledge and skills to have a lasting, positive effect on the planet, whether that’s sourcing peat-free plants, watering more sustainably or finding the flowers they love that provide pollinators with food all year round." Register for this online event taking place on Thursday 1 August 12:30 - 1pm GMT: https://lnkd.in/eVghK3qe #RHS #MHort #HorticulturalCareers

  • Designed by award-winning garden designer Adam Frost, the new wellbeing garden at Colchester Hospital in Essex aims to be a relaxing and restorative space for NHS staff, patients and visitors. Directed by the needs and voices of the NHS staff who work there, the garden will serve as a well-needed community hub. "People need somewhere tucked away where they can pause before going through the hospital entrance; I want people to feel cloaked and comfortable. On a personal level, this is my way of saying thank you to everybody that works hard in the NHS," Adam Frost. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/d_t2rG9S #RHS #NHS #Wellbeing

  • Transformed from a disused patch of land, this garden at the Walkden Clinic in Worsley, Greater Manchester, is now a green sanctuary for NHS staff and patients. Designed by garden designer Dave Green, the new garden is multifunctional, and created for staff as well as patients. It features curved seating set into grassy mounds, where teams can socialise or enjoy some peace and quiet. There is also a looped pathway, which can be used for outdoor physiotherapy sessions. Patients will be able to walk around it to regain strength, while using small weights and resistance bands in a therapeutic outdoor setting. This is one of the many green spaces that the RHS is working to develop into community-designed gardens to help promote the wellbeing of NHS staff and patients in healthcare settings around England. • A curved, wooden bench next to a path, a lawn, a car park and trees.
  • The Better New Build garden, designed by Nadine Mansfield for RHS Tatton Park 2024, aims to inspire new build homeowners and property developers to make more of their spaces and ditch environmentally damaging artificial grass. Gravel, in place of a lawn, is surrounded by plants for pollinators, native hedging – allowing birds to nest and feed – and two specimen trees, Acer davidii ‘Viper’ and a mulit-stem Crataegus prunifolia. Reclaimed slate fills the gabion seating, allowing insects to find a home, and reclaimed oak totems have specific holes drilled in for solitary bees. A section of fencing has a hole for hedgehogs to pass through, while a dual-level bespoke water feature, made from Corten steel and reclaimed stone boulders, adds an additional sensory element to the space. https://lnkd.in/dn4PQxgy #RHSTattonPark #NewBuild #UrbanGardens
