We support our hospitals, our NHS colleagues, our patients and our researchers.

About us

The Royal Free Charity is the charity NHS charity partner for the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. We support our NHS colleagues, patients and our researchers at Barnet, Chase Farm, North Mid and the Royal Free hospitals. From small acts of kindness to huge investments in discovery and innovation, everything we do changes lives for the better. Our extraordinary volunteers enrich the experience of patients and the support they provide to NHS staff is transformational. We’re there when patients need us, thanks to the services we provide. And the grants that we make help our hospitals to accelerate vital medical research and invest in innovations to help patients and staff. All this is made possible by the generosity of our supporters who help our hospitals go further and faster than the NHS could do alone.

“Arabella was always there for everyone. This is my chance to give back to the Royal Free Hospital for being there for Arabella and her family when they were in need.”   Chloe Paine is taking on a series of challenges to raise money in support of the hospital staff who cared for Arabella, her best friend who received a liver transplant following treatment for cancer. Arabella completed her A levels but died soon after starting university.   To honour her memory, Chloe has embarked on a three-peaks challenge, climbing Ben Nevis this month. She also has a skydive planned for September.   Chloe said “I feel that Arabella is with me on each climb, I plant forget-me-nots at each peak in her remembrance. The skydive will be my chance to meet her halfway”.  🗞 Read more: https://lnkd.in/e5p4KMt6

Our amazing young volunteers have been learning how to safely guide patients and visitors with visual impairments. We delivered a bespoke training session for them incorporating special glasses that simulate various eye conditions. This training is just one aspect of our young volunteer summer programme. Thirty-five young people, aged 16 to 21, are taking part this summer, supporting wards and clinics across the Royal Free Hospital, under the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.   Guy Domb, our youth volunteer coordinator, said: “By the end of the summer programme, the young volunteers will have contributed 1,500 hours of volunteering support. For some of them, this is their first step on the path to a career in the NHS; for others, it’s a chance to learn new skills. It’s great to see them grow in confidence as the programme progresses and they see the impact of their volunteering on patients and staff.”   #NHS #volunteering #personaldevelopment #RoyalFreeCharity #healthcare #medicalcareers

We have recently funded a prescription software for physiotherapists at Barnet Hospital as part of our latest round of grants aimed at enhancing patient experience.   Generous donations have paid for the Physitrack PLC exercise prescription software which makes it easier for patients to see their treatment plans, alongside videos demonstrating each exercise.   Robert Jones, outpatient physiotherapy clinical lead, said: “It’s about doing what we can do that’s going to lead to better patient care, whether it's because the staff are happier and their working lives are simpler, or it’s because we've got this grant because it's directly for patients.   “The benefit is going to be, hopefully, huge for the patient demographic that we treat.”   Staff across the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust hospitals submitted proposals for grants of up to £10,000.   We delivered £2.2 million in grant funding in 2023, thanks to our generous supporters, providing access to world-leading healthcare and conducting medical research with a global impact.   #NHS #RoyalFreeCharity #fundraising #grants #physio
