The Rolls-Royce SMR is a UK solution to the global climate change challenge and will help address the need for more affordable, home-grown, clean energy. A strong, diverse supply chain is critical to the success of this generational opportunity.   This radical approach to new nuclear can make a transformational contribution to the UK economy and our success in the Great British Nuclear selection process for SMRs before the end of the year, will unlock supply chain investment and job creation – with an opportunity to secure up to 78% UK content.   Rolls-Royce SMR has already spent close to £200million with more than 250 suppliers and is working hard to bring more SMEs and businesses with a non-nuclear background on board.   Recently, Rolls-Royce SMR held a supplier conference attended by several hundred representatives of the supply chain. The presentations from the conference are now available to view here: https://lnkd.in/e3EDTufY   Find out more about how to become part of the Rolls-Royce SMR supply chain: https://lnkd.in/eryea3PM #RollsRoyceSMR #SupplyChain #NetZero AMRC The University of Sheffield #SMR #Nuclear

Decarbonising the North’s industrial sector can be largely funded by the private sector, according to a report published today by the The Northern Powerhouse Partnership (NPP). The report builds on new analysis from Cambridge Econometrics which shows that industrial decarbonisation and reducing emissions from real estate are the sectors offering the highest potential private investment leverage overall. Rolls-Royce SMR’s Government and Corporate Affairs Director, Alastair Evans, said: “This report demonstrates how infrastructure projects can successfully ‘crowd-in’ investment – a model we have used to establish and grow the Rolls-Royce SMR business. “Our future domestic growth will be spurred by our success in the Great British Nuclear (SMR) selection process, with an announcement on successful technologies expected before the end of the year. Our success in this selection will unlock enormous potential for investment in the north and beyond. “Rolls-Royce SMR already has its headquarters and regional office in the North West and recently announced an investment of up to £15 million in a module development facility in #Sheffield, so is already heavily committed to building the North’s net zero economy.” https://lnkd.in/eK5MUW7D #RollsRoyceSMR #SMR #NetZero #Decarbonisation

The Nuclear Industry Association has applied for a justification decision for the Rolls-Royce SMR reactor design. The application makes the case that the benefits of clean, firm, flexible power from a Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor (SMR) would far outweigh any potential risks which are, in any event, rigorously controlled by robust safety features, including passive safety systems, built into the design, in line with the UK’s regulatory requirements. Helena Perry, Rolls-Royce SMR’s Safety and Regulatory Affairs Director, said: “As the UK’s most advanced SMR design, today’s submission for regulatory justification is another important step to ensure that we can continue to move at pace towards deployment in the UK.   “Each Rolls-Royce SMR ‘factory-built’ nuclear power plant will provide enough clean, affordable, electricity to power a million homes for 60 years - delivering energy security, enabling net zero and making a transformational contribution to the UK economy.   “Rolls-Royce SMR remains on track to complete Step 2 of the Generic Design Assessment by the nuclear industry’s independent regulators and move immediately into the third and final step this summer.” https://lnkd.in/eJGWPu5P

As Rolls-Royce SMR prepares to enter step 3 of the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) by the UK nuclear industry’s independent regulators, it is simultaneously running a robust auditing programme to solidify quality in standards and operations.  Following a series of independent audits, Rolls-Royce SMR has achieved ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 certification. These certifications demonstrate rigorous and robust arrangements are in place for regulatory compliance and effective risk management for health, safety and the environment.    In today’s globalised economy, businesses are increasingly held accountable for their environmental impact and the safety and health of their workers.  ISO14001 and ISO45001 are two key certifications that help organisations meet these responsibilities. ISO 14001 focuses on environmental management systems, while ISO 45001 addresses health and safety management systems.  Peter Caines, Rolls-Royce SMR Health, Safety and Environment Manager, commented: “Gaining this certification demonstrates that we have the appropriate systems, tools, and specialists in place to deliver our mission with environmental considerations and safety at the forefront.  The certification process recorded several areas of good practice, and this achievement is a validation of the excellent work and outstanding efforts of all involved.” Achieving these certifications demonstrates a commitment to sustainable and safe operational practices and is a crucial enabler for sustainable and responsible growth. #RollsRoyceSMR #WeAreSMR #DesignedForDelivery

The Rolls-Royce SMR is #designedfordelivery… this unique ‘factory-built’ nuclear power plant is a radically different approach to deploying well established nuclear technology. This results in significant advantages over ‘traditional’ onsite construction - including improved quality control, shorter construction times and increased safety. Recently, Rolls-Royce SMR opened a £multi-million facility in Sheffield to manufacture and test prototype modules. This is further example of how this ‘home-grown’ technology can lead the nuclear renaissance in the UK and demonstrates a long-term commitment to infrastructure and the skills of the future.
