Rolls-Royce SMR has enlisted GSE Solutions to develop a power station simulator, as it continues to mature the design of its SMR technology and remains on track to complete Step 2 of the Generic Design Assessment this summer. GSE Solutions is a world leader in advanced engineering and workforce solutions across the clean-energy and power industries. This simulator will play a key role in Rolls-Royce SMR’s programme to develop, verify and validate the performance and control systems of its unique ‘factory-built’ nuclear power plant. It forms part of a much wider programme of development activities that are focussed on ensuring the ‘delivery-certain’ nature of the plant. David Dodd, Rolls-Royce SMR Engineering Director, said: “Commissioning a simulation and test platform is another stride towards deploying the first Rolls-Royce SMR power plant. The work with GSE is part of our ‘digital-first’ methodology and our truly modular approach to developing new nuclear power – a reliable source of clean, affordable energy for the UK and the rest of the world.” #RollsRoyceSMR #DigitalFirst #Netzero Great British Nuclear, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero https://lnkd.in/dkn6XCQy
About us
Climate change and its consequences are one of the greatest challenges ever to face mankind. The global challenge around decarbonisation is huge. At Rolls-Royce SMR, our vision is simple – we want to provide clean, affordable energy for all. A new approach to delivering nuclear power Our Small Modular Reactor is an integrated power station, that takes well understood, existing nuclear technology and applies a factory-based philosophy to its fabrication and assembly. This repeatable, standardised approach generates huge efficiency gains to make it a commoditised product that is affordable, repeatable, deliverable and investable on a global scale, providing cheaper and more flexible electricity to form part of a future balanced, clean energy mix. When fully operational the Rolls-Royce SMR programme will create 40,000 regional UK jobs by 2050 and generate £52bn in economic benefit, with a forecast to target £250bn in global exports for the UK. Join us and help to provide clean, affordable energy for all

Rolls-Royce SMR is ready to make a transformational contribution to the UK economy. A commitment to build and operate a fleet of Rolls-Royce SMR power plants will result in a contribution of up to £54 billion to the UK economy between 2025 and 2105. The Gross Value Added (GVA) figure will be generated by the manufacture, build and operation of a fleet of Rolls-Royce SMR’s factory-built power plants. This programme of work has the potential to create more than 15,000 long-term, high-skilled jobs – with a large percentage of these roles based across the north, midlands, and North Wales. Already with a 700 strong UK-based team, Rolls-Royce SMR is prepared for another significant ramp up in staff – including an intake of new apprentices and introducing new entrants to the nuclear sector. Rolls-Royce SMR is committed to working proactively with the communities in which it operates to maximise local benefit and create a positive lasting legacy. #RollsRoyceSMR #Netzero #SocialValue #Nuclear #WeAreSMR Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, HM Treasury Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities

Today, Rolls-Royce SMR has submitted its tender response to Great British Nuclear (GBN) as part of the process to select small modular reactor technologies for deployment in the UK. This is an extremely exciting time for Rolls-Royce SMR which stands ready to move rapidly to the next phase. Selection by GBN before the end of the year will unlock supply chain investment, job creation and enormous opportunities to export this unique product to countries around the world that are seeking to strengthen their energy security with a long-term, low-carbon solution. #RollsRoyceSMR #NetZero #Nuclear #Growth #Investment Great British Nuclear Department for Energy Security and Net Zero

The Rolls-Royce SMR is #designedfordelivery… this unique ‘factory-built’ nuclear power plant is a radically different approach to deploying well established nuclear technology. This results in significant advantages over ‘traditional’ onsite construction - including improved quality control, shorter construction times and increased safety. Recently, Rolls-Royce SMR opened a £multi-million facility in Sheffield to manufacture and test prototype modules. This is further example of how this ‘home-grown’ technology can lead the nuclear renaissance in the UK and demonstrates a long-term commitment to infrastructure and the skills of the future. Today, we’re delighted to be attending the Inclusion and Diversity in Nuclear Annual Conference in Manchester. With a theme of Retain, Sustain and Thrive, the conference will help attendees understand how harnessing inclusion can help power growth in the UK Nuclear sector. As an industry partner to IDN, we already appreciate the benefits of diverse and inclusive workplaces, but the exciting lineup of speakers will undoubtedly provide more food for thought. If you’re already attending, be sure to say hello to our team at the Rolls-Royce SMR stall. #WeAreSMR #IDN24

Another important milestone has been reached by Rolls-Royce SMR, progressing through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Technical Safety Review on Conceptual Design Safety. #RollsRoyceSMR #WeAreSMR
We were delighted to welcome a team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) last week to our Manchester office and receive their draft report as part of a Technical Safety Review of our design. Thank you to the IAEA review team led by Mr Martin Gajdos and to the Rolls-Royce SMR team for all their hard work over the recent months.

Our Pride Inclusion Network have been supporting activities in Rolls-Royce SMR throughout June as we recognised Pride Month. From discussions on the impact of hidden diversity to hearing directly from LGBTQ colleagues on their lived experiences, Pride have given us the opportunity to understand what more we can do to embed a culture that helps us all thrive. But the highlight of Pride Month was hearing from Matt Lindley. Matt talked about his career in the Royal Air Force at a time when it was illegal to be himself, and how that affected his performance and mental health. Hearing this first-hand was incredibly impactful for our colleagues, who took away a strong message on the importance of inclusive cultures and supportive leaders, both of which we will need to deliver our company mission of clean, affordable energy for all. Thank you to Matt and our Pride Inclusion Network for their dedication over the last month. Armed Forces Day falls on 29 June this year and to recognise this important day, and the contribution the armed forces make, Rolls-Royce SMR Chief Executive, Chris Cholerton, signed the Armed Forces Covenant as part of the organisation’s continued commitment to supporting those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families. With 700 employees, and in preparation for a further significant ramp-up in people and capability, a continued commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion is one of Rolls-Royce SMR’s greatest strengths. An important part of maintaining that diversity is supporting the employment of veterans and Service spouses and partners. As part of its social value work, and ensuring entrants are supported in joining the nuclear sector, Rolls-Royce SMR already offers additional flexibility for service personnel and their families, along with career transition support and extensive ongoing development opportunities. Linda Costello, Rolls-Royce SMR Director of Internal Audit, said: “As a Trustee of The Poppy Factory – a charity which supports wounded, injured and sick veterans into meaningful employment – I am delighted to see Rolls-Royce SMR signing up to the Armed Forces Covenant. “Veterans, their partners, and existing service personnel can offer employers a range of valuable skills and experience which will enhance our diversity and provide access to a wealth of talent.” #WeAreSMR #ArmedForcesCovenant #ArmedForces #RollsRoyceSMR British Army Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust Great British Nuclear Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Royal Navy Royal Air Force (RAF)
