📣 BREAKING NEWS: 🌟 The World Biogas Association has established a new GLOBAL CONGRESS SERIES, taking place in countries of the world with the biggest potential in biogas. #India kicked off this series in 2023 building on the #wastetowealth mantra that was a hallmark of India’s Presidency of the G20 India. This annual congress will also be developed in #Brazil, #SouthAfrica, #China and #Indonesia as well as other key regions. Speaking at India Energy Week, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the strategic importance of India’s G20 Global Biofuels Alliance initiative, of which the WBA is one of 12 founding international organisations. This year, the Congress will be on the 23rd and 24th October at Le Meridien New Delhi, and will focus on developing the framework to allow for rapid scaling of the biogas industry. The WBA will develop this framework in collaboration with national biogas stakeholders, and across the industrial waste sector. Previous participants have included, The Honourable Minister, Mr Hardeep Puri, and the Honorable Secretary, Mr Pankaj Jain, both from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, and also the Advisor to the Prime Minister, Mr Shri. Tarun Kapoor India is now the world's most populous country and is set to become one of the world’s leading biogas markets by 2030. As such, India will play a decisive leadership role in the fight against climate change. AO ELECTRICAL SERVICES LTD has purchased an additional 10 tractor units running on compressed natural gas (CNG), doubling the size of its CNG fleet. The retailer initially purchased 10 CNG tractor units in 2022 and has set a target of having 90% of its vehicles running on CNG by 2030. The switch from diesel to CNG, according to AO, will enable a reduction of up to 85% in CO2emissions. David Ashwell, Group Logistics Director at AO, said: “We are proud to be continuing our move to a more sustainable future that will hopefully see 90% of our fleet running on CNG by 2030. These tractor units together with the new LSTs allow us to reduce our carbon footprint and save on costs. Tesco Ireland has taken delivery of 50 state-of-the-art biomethane fuelled trucks which will operate across its country-wide distribution network. Biomethane, a renewable energy source produced from organic waste, offers a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels. The new biomethane trucks are coming on stream as part of Tesco's comprehensive strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance the environmental sustainability of its operations. DHL Supply Chain’s David O’Neill said: “This is such an important project to demonstrate the role biomethane can play in Irish commercial transport and a significant step towards decarbonising Tesco’s fleet.
