Forestry England have bold ambitions to let nature transform more than 8,000 hectares of land in four of the nation’s forests. 🌳🌲  Last week a few of us were able to spend a few days with Forestry England's Forest Wilding team at Kielder Forest discussing potential approaches to #rewilding, ecosystem restoration and nature-friendly forestry. It was brilliant to join the Kielder team to discuss their vision and plans for the future wilding area. Covering 6,000ha, this is one of the most important landscape-scale ecosystem restoration projects in Britain. Delighted to have won a PEA (People. Environment. Achievement) Award last night, where a whole host of green changemakers were celebrated! Prof Alastair Driver picked up the award for the Nature category, sponsored by Yeo Valley Organic, on behalf of the team - and got some time in with Kabir Kaul FRSA and host Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. What a turnout! 60,000 people joined together to demand the next UK Government sit up and take notice of nature 📣 So many people marched on Saturday, in one of the biggest gatherings for nature & climate that Britain has ever seen. The real sense of togetherness and urgency was palpable as we called with one unified voice: Restore Nature Now. A massive THANK YOU to everyone at the march and at home who helped fly the flag for rewilding as a solution to these interlinked crises, as well as to the talented artists at Leeds Refugee Forum, who created the soaring white-tailed eagle that led the way. Our CEO Rebecca Wrigley had the honour of delivering a rousing message of hope to the crowds, alongside young rewilders Flo Blackbourn and Josh Shaw. It highlighted real project examples that show how rewilding is already working for people and wildlife, providing practical solutions to the sometimes overwhelming problems of nature loss across Britain.
