Today marks the second anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). As Meghan Schultz from Invenergy explains, this act has amplified investment in #renewableenergy across the United States. "Historically, we'd had production and investment tax credits in the US to incentivise wind and solar, but these were only renewed on an annual or maybe a biannual basis," says Schultz. When the IRA was signed into law, businesses suddenly had access to ten plus years of credit. This unlocked a new era of opportunity. As a result of the IRA, 240 new projects worth $168 billion have been announced in the USA's Battery Belt – a region that's leading the charge in EV and battery innovation. Across the board, new renewable projects under the IRA will generate 25GW. That's enough to power 22 million homes. Harnessing this new potential could transform not just the clean energy sector, but the American economy at large, making significant strides towards #decarbonisation in the process. We're delighted to announce that two RE:TV films will receive Dolphin Trophies at the 15th Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards 2024. One of these films is The Speeches – a project that celebrates our founder’s long-standing commitment to the environment. As Prince of Wales, His Majesty the King spent more than five decades warning of the dangers of the climate and biodiversity crisis that we face today. We worked with a cast of actors, activists and academics – from household names like Idris Elba and Olivia Colman to climate innovators like Janine Benyus and Thomas W. Crowther – to revisit excerpts from some of his most inspiring speeches. So many of the messages still ring true today. As the King put it in 2020; “There is real hope, but we’ve just got to get our act together, and we’ve got to remember that it’s the natural world that sustains us.” Watch The Speeches: https://lnkd.in/grtbF8T3 We’re also thrilled that Freetown the Treetown will be recognised. This case study film featuring Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE and Eric HUBBARD shows how tech is driving an ambitious and innovative reforestation project in Sierra Leone. Watch Freetown the Treetown: https://lnkd.in/eE6EiSPK The winners will be officially announced at an awards ceremony in late September. Stay tuned for more details then.

Forests provide critical services to our society. They filter water, store carbon, control floods and conserve coastlines. As Todd Gartner from the World Resources Institute and Cities4Forests explains, we need funding to restore and protect forests. So how can we accurately measure their value? The World Resources Institute are developing new approaches to tracking #forestry. Their tool Global Forest Watch combines technology with community verification to monitor the health of forests worldwide 📊 This data can help drive large-scale investment in thriving and resilient ecosystems. RE:TV’s month-long season dedicated to the forest #bioeconomy is still underway. To learn more about the business case for financing forests, watch the extended interview with Todd on our new hub full of films and reports (link in comments) 👇

Siemens Energy are taking green hydrogen to the next level in Emden, Germany. They have won a contract to supply utility company EWE with a 280-megawatt electrolysis system 👏 Due to its use of PEM technology, this electrolyser is especially suited to running on renewable energies. The new plant is set to power up in 2027 and will generate up to 26,000 tonnes of #greenhydrogen each year. Hydrogen can help decarbonise sectors that are hard to electrify. As a member of the Sustainable Markets Initiative's Hydrogen Task Force, Siemens Energy are committed to scaling up green hydrogen while also reducing industry emissions.

"We were custodians of the land, and we're still custodians of the land." Indigenous Peoples' territories cover 28% of the globe, including 11% of the world's forests and most of its remaining biodiversity. We have much to learn from the way they live in harmony with nature 🌿 In South Australia, a unique restoration project is combining Indigenous knowledge and modern finance. The Ngarrindjeri people have nurtured their traditional lands for tens of thousands of years. Now Cassinia Environmental, who we filmed with back in 2022, have found a way to reward them for their work. This is just one example of how Indigenous perspectives are driving and informing #climatesolutions around the world. As Adele Jones from Sustainable Food Trust explains, we have a huge opportunity to change our global #foodsystems from the ground up. Farming represents over 50% of habitable land on Earth. Shifting to regenerative practices can deliver positive outcomes for society, the environment and public health – and all on a global scale. To help farmers understand their role in the agricultural transition, Sustainable Food Trust are designing a common framework that measures farm-level sustainability.

In Yosemite National Park, extractive practices have led to an excess of timber, making the forest more susceptible to catastrophic wildfires – but there's another way forward 🪵 As Thomas Hobby from Yosemite Clean Energy explains, forests can be the engine room of a new #bioeconomy. The company uses gasification technology to transform wood waste into renewable green hydrogen and natural gas, generating revenue and providing a scalable alternative to fossil fuels. RE:TV's month-long season dedicated to valuing forests is in full swing. To learn more about how the natural and economic value of sustainable forestry, watch the extended interview with Tom on our new hub full of films and reports ➡️ https://lnkd.in/efG2Fm4H #forestry

Forests are vital to the future of our planet 🌍 Not only do they cover almost a third of the land on Earth, but they're also the world's second largest #carbonsink, absorbing up to 30% of CO2 emissions. Given the importance of these ecosystems, it's crucial that we manage them effectively. Sustainable #forestry is both a tool for mitigating climate change and an opportunity for economic growth 🍃 Do you want to learn how forests are driving a new #bioeconomy?
