How can we take #reuse and #repair mainstream? 😎 That was the question that Bryson Recycling came to us with as it looked at whether it made sense to establish a large-scale reuse park in North Wales. Our research shone a light on the possibilities and opportunities available to them, which will help Bryson Recycling support the #BeyondRecycling commitments in Wales and help the local authorities they serve to significantly increase the scale of reuse in the region. You can read more about this (and our other work) in our 2023-24 #impactreport (link in comments below).

having held up Braskem as a case study in defossilising polymer production before it was a pleasure to meet in person with Richard Lambert and hear progress on I'm Green bio-based polymers in his presentation at #GRIPS2024 earlier today. With plans for reaching 1 million tonnes per year of sustainably produced feedstock bio polymers that can be mechanically recycled as any other polymer - is this the future vision of circular plastics?

What single item is responsible for 2-3% of household waste in the UK?* 🚮 . . . . ...nappies. 👶 What's surprising about statistic this is how avoidable the problem is. For each child going full-time in reusable nappies, around 5,000 single-use nappies can be avoided. Promoting #reuse in this area is one of our key community projects, and we're delighted to be working with Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) to deliver the Real Nappy Project across the county. Our mobile #repair and #reuse project Fixy has had a massive year! 🕹️ As well as raising awareness of repair groups operating around Somerset, our Fixy team has: 💫 inspired the creation of three new repair groups in the county; 💬 held 1,737 conversations around reuse, repair and recycling; 🎮 collected 961 items (over 605kg) of smart tech - these were then checked, data wiped and, wherever possible, refurbished and donated back into the local community to support people in digital poverty. Going forwards, Fixy is increasing its efforts to establish smart tech drop off points in Somerset, including holding tech amnesties near flatted properties where unwanted smart technology can be collected for reuse. You can find out more about Fixy and our other work in our latest Impact Report: https://lnkd.in/eAWPVqTi

This year’s #ResourceHot100 list has been released – and we’re delighted to that two of our Resource Futures experts have been included! 🏅🏅 The Hot 100 celebrates individual achievement in the waste and resources sector – and takes the form of an open vote across the industry, with more than over 17,500 verified votes cast in this year’s edition. 🗳 This year our CEO Sam Reeve made a return to the list at #39, while our director Gwen Frost came in at #83. Massive congratulations to both for the well-deserved recognition. 🎉 You can see who made the list over at Resource Media: https://lnkd.in/eS9tVBVC

Looking forward to being part of #GRIPS2024, sharing a platform with Philip Law of British Plastics Federation, Peter Clark of Innovate UK, David Landsberg of Peasy and John Ferguson of Binn Group. I'll be taking a very quick look at business models for a circular plastics revolution, and I'm sure there'll be lots of healthy debate. see you there. This week I started as as Senior Consultant at Resource Futures! Some reflections so far: 🔥 warm and friendly, 👐 open and collaborative, 🚵♂️ uphill (quite a change from the Netherlands!) Based in Bristol's Create Centre in the UK, I will be putting my PhD experiences into practice, managing and assisting with UK-based and international research projects on #waste and #circulareconomy policy. This is such a fast moving field right now, with a lot of uncertainty and moving parts which makes it all the more exciting and motivating! Please feel free to reach out for discussions on all things plastics and waste policy-related! #ResearchforImpact #CircularTransformations

What does a 'culture of repair' look like? 🔧 Some of our team attended a talk by photographer Mark A Phillips earlier this week, where he presented his latest project unbroken.solutions - which looks to "shed a light on the repairers, re-users, activists, and solution providers that are working to make better use of what we have and to build a more sustainable future". This project showcases an amazing array of repair projects from Cuba to Ghana, Costa Rica to the UK - including CAG Somerset member Porlock Vale Repair Cafe and our very own #Fixy van! You can see more of Mark's project on his website: https://lnkd.in/eKsixRdS (image credit: Mark A Phillips) #repair #reuse #circulareconomy #circularity #CE
