💡For newcomers to the channel interested in Vibration Analysis and Motion Amplification® technology, you'll enjoy this recent trunnion bearings case-example: 💬 Stuart Walker "We were carrying out a proof-of-concept day and were asked to look at some slow speed trunnion bearings on a dryer that has had issues in the past. We were very surprised to see a dominant vibration at 1.57Hz on the MA data. We decided to filter the MA data to this frequency and visualize the motion. We could clearly see some unusual flexing on the inlet side bearings and structure at this frequency. We knew the main drum (0.03Hz 2.2 RPM) and trunnion roller speeds (0.24Hz / 14.2 rpm) so were puzzled to what the 1.57Hz vibration was related to. We looked at the bearing defect frequencies for the FAG 22348 bearing and confirmed the 1.57Hz was the Ball/Roller pass frequency for the outer race! (BPFO). I have only seen this a few times but in my experience if you get a dominant primary bearing frequency in velocity or displacement with low G levels (No impacting) it usually suggests the bearing race geometry is distorted causing a vibration at the ball/roller pass frequency. (No spalling damage present). Interesting the Emerson's Automation Technologies & Solutions portable AMS 2140 data backed up the MA data as the 1.57Hz vibration was present in the data although low amplitude. Good example why its worth taking displacement / velocity readings on slow speed applications as well as PeakVue readings. Not sure at this stage as the actual root cause, alignment, loading? if there are any trunnion experts out there feel free to comment. Frederic Robinet would love to know your thoughts!" 📚 For more information on the IRIS M™ camera system by RDI Technologies Inc. technologies, click here: https://lnkd.in/dwaq93E. 🏭 To arrange a 'Proof of concept day', visit: https://lnkd.in/dz5Fh2E, or email the MA team at: [email protected]. #motionamplification #vibrationanalysis #ods #dryer #bearings #Emerson #AMS2140 #IRISM

⚠️ The importance of visual inspections shouldn't be underestimated! 💬 Stuart Walker: "In this digital world of remote monitoring, cloud, data analytics you still cannot beat a good visual inspection of equipment! This is a critical fan (still running) with inlet duct damage caused by a forklift truck." 🔗 For more information about our CBM services (consultancy, surveys, troubleshooting, support, assessment, planning), visit: https://lnkd.in/dSwdaG7 #reliability #conditionmonitoring #forklift #visualinspection #maintenance

🏭 For #MAMonday this week, we return to an insightful video taken 6-years ago by Stuart Walker. In this footage, Stuart captures some amazing imagery of a building with serious vibration problems. 📄 This work-request was to provide a visualisation of the problem, an assessment of the extent of the problem, and to identify the source of the vibration. - Vibration frequency identified: 672 CPM / 11.2 Hz - Shaker screen No.2 - 1XRPM 📉 This was a tricky problem to solve! The client is going to alter the speed of the Shaker and monitor results, hopefully moving away from building's natural frequency. 🔗 To learn more about RDI Technologies Inc.'s Motion Amplification® technology, visit the resource links in the comments below, or email the MA team: [email protected]. #motionamplification #vibrationanalysis #shakers #resonance

⚙️ For those new to the channel, Stuart Walker shared this inner race defect example which reviewed issues on a cooling tower gearbox: 📈 "A nice inner race defect from one of my regular customers. 3rd time I have pulled this cooling tower gearbox for damage over the last 15 years. All different defects. Done this job with 2120, 2130, and now Emerson's Automation Technologies & Solutions AMS 2140 vibration analyser with remote plugins from Hansford Sensors Ltd. ⚠️ Waveform PK-PK trend in G's is a great parameter to trend defect severity. Didn't have any details on this gearbox except input and output speeds. Data showed clear harmonics with many modulation sidebands at 945 CPM, input was 1480rpm output 110rpm so deduced most likely second shaft inner race bearing defect which was correct." 🔗 To learn more about the technologies used in the case example, see the 'Resources' comment below. #conditionmonitoring #vibrationanalysis #hansfordsensors #emerson #gearbox #ams2140

✅ Great post by Andrew Loder! Q: "Does this bearing need replacing immediately, can it run for a little longer or do we need to have more information?" - answers in the comments on the original post 👇
With good training, experience, the correct equipment and the right information, a vibration analyst is often able to detect bearing faults months in advance. Once the bearing fault has been diagnosed, a decision must be made on when to stop the machine and carry out the corrective maintenance. The question is, how do we figure out the severity of the fault and when the bearing is ready to be changed? Take a look at the attached spectrums and waveforms and tell me what you think. Does this bearing need replacing immediately, can it run for a little longer or do we need to have more information? #vibrationanalysis #conditionmonitoring #technology #manufacturing Reliability Maintenance Solutions Ltd

❓Why did the fault occur in the first place? If you're new to the topic of Vibration Analysis, the article, 'The Vibration Analyst Checklist – Do You Pass?' will help answer that question: 📈 "Some vibration analysts believe that their sole job is to detect and report fault conditions. But that is not true. Locked inside your vibration data (and other condition monitoring data) may be the reason why the fault occurred in the first place. It is great if you can report that a bearing may fail, but even better if you can say what caused the bearing to develop the fault (or why the machine is misaligned, out of balance, and so on). 🛠️ You can report the fault and wait for the fault to develop again, or you can do your best to ensure that it does not happen again. Precision balancing and alignment, correct lubrication, acceptance testing (to ensure that machines are in good health when they are put into service) and other practices combine to improve the reliability of the equipment. Vibration analysis and the other condition monitoring technologies are still essential, but improved maintenance, purchasing and repair practices will ensure that machine life will approach the design life." 👀 Read the full article, here: https://lnkd.in/dzXBBBt #conditionmonitoring #vibrationanalysis #faultfinding #rootcauseanalysis #maintenance

📈 This was a good shaker test for Sensoteq's Kappa X wireless sensor! In the case example below, Stuart Walker is tracking a troublesome bearing defect. Spoiler: the sensor passed with flying colours! 🏭 'Critical vibrating cleaning screen for a food production factory. Vibrating screen, 2 off gearboxes run at 200mm/sec RMS 840 RPM. Bearing defect monitored, avoided plant shutdown until end of production campaign saving an estimated £42k in operating costs.' 🛟 For more Kappa X examples, visit the Website via the links in the comments, or email the VA team: [email protected]. #gearbox #fans #shakers #foodindustry #conditionmonitoring #wirelesstechnology #vibrationanaysis
