rankinfraser landscape architecture llp was formed in January 2008 by Chris Rankin and Kenny Fraser two Landscape Architects with almost 30 years combined experience of delivering award winning projects from conception through to completion. Based in Edinburgh but working throughout the UK and internationally the practice aims to set high standards in design, sustainability, research and specification and is currently working on projects from Inverness to Antwerp.

The Hidden Gardens @thehiddengardensglasgow is 20 years old this year. It was inspiring to re-visit today with MLA landscape architecture edinburgh students after working on the design with Rolf Roscher of @erzlandscape back in 2001-3. The gardens remain remarkably true to the original conception and have aged beautifully. The gardens have recently lost a substantial amount of lottery funding and need all the help and support they can get to keep providing a very valuable community space in the Southside of Glasgow.

We don’t normally trumpet planning applications but this one is special. The application has been submitted by the National Trust for the renewal of the original Canal Gates entrance to Studley Royal water garden, part of the Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal UNESCO World Heritage Site. Working closely with architects Feilden Fowles we developed a sensitive landscape led approach to regenerating this important site, incorporating a new building and remaking lost landscape elements, greatly improving the visitor facilities in this area of the Aislabie’s world famous garden. #landscapearchitecture #worldheritage #worldheritagesite #designedlandscapes
