🔄 Popular Safe System Survey Returns 🔄 https://lnkd.in/dQPcDN3g Agilysis Limited have today launched a national survey on the state of Safe System implementation, which we are pleased to support RAC Foundation alongside Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety, Road Safety Foundation UK Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE), Road Safety GB, IAM RoadSmart and RoadSafe. Now in its third year, the survey introduces a fresh perspective by focusing on culture maturity to evaluate how equipped we are to build capacity and drive progress in road safety. The survey invites everyone in the road safety community to participate, including those from UK road safety local authorities, police forces, fire and rescue services, road safety partnerships, charities, or private organisations. Participation is encouraged at all levels to build a comprehensive picture. All responses will be anonymised, and no sensitive information will be asked. The survey will remain open throughout the summer, closing on Friday 13th September 2024, with findings published in a special webinar on Thursday, 24th October. Please do share this with your colleagues and help shape the future of road safety in Britain! 🚦🛣️

Almost 2 million driving tests that were taken in 2023-24. Yet fewer than half were passed. We need to improve the pass rate to reduce the waiting time for a test (currently, almost 18 weeks) and to reduce the time and financial costs of retakes. We think that might be done by offering a rebate on the driving test fee for those who pass first time, and slightly increasing the fee for those people who are sitting their third test or greater. The impact of the ZEV Mandate is such a hot topic at the moment and there are lots of different perspectives to take into account before you can even attempt to come to a conclusion. You can always trust Ben Nelmes and New AutoMotive to produce some robust and insightful analysis, and their latest report is very well timed. The headline finding of their latest report is that price parity is a lot closer than many presume now that some OEMs are offering large discounts on their EV product. They modelled seven new EVs and their petrol counterparts, and reviewed their cost across three acquisition methods - outright purchase, leasing and PCP. This resulted in 20 scenarios in all. Their sample suggests that EV upfront costs are just 12% above petrol equivalents, with cost of ownership payback delivered within 2.5 years for more than half of the 20 ICE v BEV scenarios. It also demonstrates that there can be major TCO differences for the same BEV depending on the acquisition method, largely due, the report suggests, to the residual value risks set against those vehicles. Personally, I fear the 'average' price gap figure has been slightly skewed by using 4 vehicles from one particular OEM brand family which is taking a particular strategy to the ZEV Mandate. I would be really interested to hear what others think. The report is downloadable from newautomotive.org but you have to supply your contact details. Well done to Ben and his team for pulling this together. The more clever people we have assessing the market impact of the ZEV Mandate and other Government interventions, the better. Here at BVRLA we certainly have some of our brightest minds working on it! Thomas McLennan Zohra Mannani Catherine Bowen Phil. Garthside Oxford Economics

We know there are trends in annual milage linked to fuel technology, with diesel-fuelled cars travelling significantly further each year than petrol, with further disaggregation for engine size, vintage and location. We need a more complex metric to understand the adoption of BEV as we approach the intermediate phase-out of ICE and longer retention of older, larger cars that have become increasingly reliable and costly to replace.

How many more families? How many more young lives cut short? A 'treatment' for the risk to young driver crashes was invented in New Zealand in 1984, and our politicians started to debate that in 1993. And in 2024 are still debating it. (Thank you Dr Ian Greenwood). It is one of just FOUR top demands, from 60 leading organisations, for the next government to introduce Graduated Driver Licensing. It's a progressive licensing system to support young drivers by limiting high-risk driving situations, a measure proven to reduce fatalities by up to 40%. It's not a bid to remove freedoms. We need to remind politicians and some in the media that this public health intervention called #GDL saves lives SO that young drivers can have a life filled with freedom.
