If things tend to be quiet in your agency over summer, why not do some ops housekeeping. Reviewing where and how money is being spent on things like subscriptions and tech, to carving out time to check in with clients can help to inform decisions and prep you for the final quarter of the year (is it nearly here already?!) Not sure what to do? Check out our list... #AgencyLife

Did you know that today is Self Care Day? The World Health Organisation specifically chose this day, 24/07, because self care an be practiced 24/7. Healthy and happy teams are more productive and engaged, so how are you encouraging your team to embrace self care? Here are five simple things you can do: - Reduce meeting times from one hour to 45min - Encourage regular breaks (away from the screen) - Allow people to schedule time for exercise and getting outdoors - Add fruit and healthier snacks to your treat trays - Encourage an 'email free' culture after working hours

Still trying to get through all of the employment info from the King's Speech? Here are a few key things we think agencies should know: - Pay gap reporting to be extended to include ethnicity and disability for businesses with more than 250 employees. Whilst this might not apply to most agencies, committing this reporting is useful for businesses of any size - Flexible working will be default. So instead of employees having to explain why they need it, employers will have to explain why they can't have it - Unlawful to dismiss a woman within six months of her return to work after having a baby - Access to parental leave and pay for everyone, from day one - Reform of the apprenticeship levy More detail in the comments.

Our line management training is becoming increasingly popular here are Quansah Consulting. Why? We believe great line managers make agencies great, but not enough investment is made into supporting people who have this crucial role. Has your agency given pay rises in the past year? The latest Salary survey from The Works Search Ltd PR Executive Search Firm found that nearly a quarter of PR/comms agency professionals are unhappy or very unhappy with their current salary. Unsurprisingly pay increases have fallen, with 71% receiving an uplift compared to 77% the previous year. And most (35%) raises were up to 5%. With increased costs and squeezed budgets, generous rises are becoming difficult to offer. So what does that mean? From 'work from anywhere' to enhanced parental leave or fun/fulfilment funds. Agencies are taking a closer look at how they can enhance their employer brands and offer enticing perks and packages to attract, retain and satisfy talent. It was so much fun to be part of yesterday's Clockwork, agency operations conference by Agency Hackers. Lots of takeaways to digest (excuse the pun!) ✅ Operations is more people than process - getting behaviours, understanding and attitude right is just as important. ✅ Not everything needs a process - it's true! ✅ Timesheets are challenge for everyone - but if you are going to use them, they need to be accurate and used for the right things (insights and decision making, rather than spying) ✅ Motivating teams is difficult - but understanding what drives individuals can make all the difference. However we should put poor performance down to lack of motivation, because it could be down to other issues. ✅ Founders need to let go - yes, its a struggle, but for agencies to grow and thrive, owners and founders must have the right people in place to take on some responsibility. ✅ Operations looks different in every agency - but for an ops function (or individual) to have an impact, it needs a clear remit and object, instead of just being the in-house firefighter 👨🏿🚒
