We take a science-led approach to unlocking solutions that reduce climate impacts and lift people out of vulnerability.

About us

Climate change is the most significant challenge humanity faces today. As a ‘crisis multiplier’, its impacts are rapidly escalating, intensifying stresses on food, water, and land resources.  The poorest and most vulnerable communities, who contribute the least to the causes of climate change, suffer the most.  Scientific evidence warns us that we are on the brink of crossing multiple critical tipping points, leading to irreversible damage to both human and natural systems. A new approach is urgently needed. Founded in 2019 and fully funded by Quadrature Capital group, Quadrature Climate Foundation (QCF) is an independent foundation dedicated to tackling this climate emergency. We invest in a wide array of climate solutions, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, scaling methods to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, and responding effectively to climate impacts.  Our work has a global focus. Since launching in 2019, we have committed more than US$1 billion in grants to more than 180 organisations advancing climate solutions in 17 countries. Our team is made up of scientists, policymakers, lawyers, advocates and those from the corporate and financial sectors we engage with, all driven by a shared commitment to discover and implement critical solutions.

Please note, we do not review unsolicited funding requests.

Quadrature Climate Foundation reaches Giga-scale giving…   (this is a joint message with Greg De Temmerman so you might see it twice 😉 )   We’re proud to announce that Quadrature Climate Foundation has reached a new and exciting milestone – since inception, the foundation has committed over $1bn in climate-focused grantmaking (see the press release here https://lnkd.in/ebnspA96). The obvious question is of course: where is that funding going? Historically, most of the funding was dedicated to emission reductions. But the fact that climate impacts are increasing fast, and affecting the least responsible disproportionally, led us to review our strategy (https://lnkd.in/eT5G7Nr8). We now allocate funding across three priority areas: Reduce, Remove, and Respond (you can see here the evidence behind some of our programmes: https://lnkd.in/eH7J-p8B. - Reduce: Approximately 85% of our funding supports emissions reduction, the fastest and most effective way to prevent long-term temperature overshoot. But we know that decarbonisation, while critical, is no longer enough to keep emissions below the critical 1.5-degree threshold. - Remove: About 10% of our funding goes towards scaling carbon removals, as all Paris Agreement-compatible scenarios require gigaton-scale negative emissions to offset residual emissions. Read more about our initiatives to scale carbon removals (https://lnkd.in/ekYmg_cF)  - Respond: The remaining 5% is focused on helping vulnerable communities adapt to climate impacts (https://lnkd.in/eGq8CcuS) and to supporting work to understand and govern potential future climate solutions like solar radiation management (https://lnkd.in/ef46njMq). Over time, we expect our funding to become more balanced across our priorities, in line with where QCF can have the greatest impact and additionality. The real work of course is in the delivery of climate action on the ground – so kudos to our partners who are turning this funding into action to avoid and address climate impacts and support vulnerable communities. We’re so grateful for the last five years of partnership and looking forward to future collaborations. And huge thanks to the amazing Quadrature Climate Foundation team who work behind the scenes to make it happen! The link below gives a high-level overview of our strategy and how we think of our missions as a climate foundation.
