Scotland’s nature is in trouble, but it can recover! Across Scotland, people are working together in amazing ways to restore wildlife and habitats – like planting seagrass and reintroducing European flat oysters to the Firth of Forth 🌱 But to drive further change, we need more action from the Scottish Government. #RestorationForth is urging the Scottish Government not to cut funding for nature in the upcoming Scottish budget. Project Seagrass reposted this
The first stage in seagrass restoration of firth of forth is the processing of common eelgrass (Zostera marina). This involves isolating the small seeds either through the collection tanks or manually by human hands. Had a lot of fun sifting through seagrass with Scottish Seabird Centre to isolate the seeds before they get sent down to Project Seagrass where they get stored over winter to prevent early germination. Next year the seedlings will be planted in the firth of forth.

We've taken The Green Blue boating pledge! Will you? Physical damage to seagrass habitats comes in a range of forms, most notably occurring from recreational boating activities such as anchoring and mooring 🛥️ Visit The Green Blue website to explore a range of resources including a Green Guide to Anchoring and Mooring 👉https://lnkd.in/eRns4JRc The guide outlines best practices for anchoring and how to avoid further damage to sensitive marine habitats such as seagrass meadows 🌱 Take the pledge today and join the growing sustainable boating community 👉 https://ow.ly/zEYT50TLovJ Royal Yachting Association (RYA) #GoGreenOnTheBlue

Last week the team were out on fieldwork in the Solent monitoring our WWF-UK experimental plots at Priory Bay and Thorness 🌱 We were pleased to see that the existing seagrass looked in a much better condition compared to earlier in the spring/summer and that there were some signs of growth within our plots. We also planted 126 fragments at Priory Bay with the help of 7 volunteers as part of a Fragment Walk 🌱Liz Earle Beauty Co. Limited 🌱Solent Seascape Project

Project Seagrass have just launched a survey to gather thoughts and ideas from local fishers and sea resource gatherers across South and West Wales on potential areas for seagrass restoration. Responses to the survey will ensure that seagrass restoration sites are selected based on local knowledge and with an awareness and understanding of existing activities to ensure we avoid any conflicts and find the most suitable sites 🌱 We would greatly appreciate your time completing the short (10 minute) survey and sharing with your community. To take part in the survey, please visit this link 👉 https://ow.ly/wGHf50TQMFZ 📸 Shannon Moran / Ocean Image Bank

We would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who supported our Crowdfunder! Thanks to your support we have raised an incredible £26,095 🎉 We will use these donations to work with Tandem Ventures to design and develop an underwater seagrass seed harvester to make the seagrass restoration process more efficient. Whilst the official campaign is now over, you can still donate to this work via 👉 https://ow.ly/sXet50TQuh9 📸 Tandem Ventures
