Why a £3billion pound Sandwich shop gave me a Free Meal? Last Saturday, after volunteering to feed families and children in my community, I drove about 30 miles to another town, still wearing my volunteer shirt. As I walked into a sandwich shop 🥪🥪🥪, the person at the counter recognized me as part of the Gillingham S.T.R.E.E.T Angels, a group dedicated to feeding families and children in the community ensuring no child goes to bed hungry. When I went to pay, he insisted, "No, take it for free." He explained that Pret a Manger, the company he worked for, supports the homeless through food giveaways. Lesson Learned: Corporate Kindness: This experience showed me that even big companies like Pret a Manger are compassionate and actively support their communities. Building Loyalty: Acts of kindness, like providing free meals to volunteers, not only support those in need but also build loyalty and goodwill within the community. It's inspiring to see how businesses can make a positive impact beyond their products or services. What does your brand mean to you? How are you contributing to your community? 🌈 This Pride Month, our Chief Information Officer, Amanda Hamilton, sat down with Vanessa Edwige, Chelsea & Battersea Operations Manager and Leader of Pret’s LGBTQ belonging group, to share her personal journey. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of being authentic and the positive impact it has on our work and community.     Amanda shared,    "Pride is important to me. Growing up in a conservative small town, I was frequently othered and didn't understand why girls often weren't allowed to do what boys did. It took years of experiencing life to feel comfortable in my own skin. I wasn't openly gay in my career until I was in my 30s because openness wasn’t encouraged. It took a long time to realise I have a right to be here. Pride reminds me and many others of the power of being authentic.     “Innovation is at its best when people are able to be themselves. As a neurodivergent individual and historically often the only woman on the team, I would struggle to have an impact. With the help of great mentors, I learned to be my authentic self.  I was taught to approach the world with mutual empathy and positive intent. This changed everything for me. The more you’re behind a mask, the less you’re connected to people and your purpose.    “As part of the global leadership team at Pret, it’s clear to me that LGBTQ belonging is important to the business. Pret has a unique culture that is very attractive and goes above and beyond in its work for LGBTQ communities, like the LGBTQ belonging group and its continued donations and support to akt through The Pret Foundation.    “I’d like to see change in the tech industry with more visibility for minorities. Pret’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity makes it a special place to work and a model for others."  At Pret, we believe in creating a space where everyone feels they belong and they’re welcome, whether you’re a member or our team or one of our customers. 🌈
