That’s the sort of thing Emma is talking about in the legal section of her blog. A recent case involving the delivery company, DPD, touches on fatherhood, judgements that people make and how this can spell trouble for employers. 🌟 How might the budget impact you as an employer? 🌟 Today is the day! Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced details of the new Labour government's first budget. As usual Precept are sharing what you, as an employer, need to know from that announcement. *** Minimum wage changes (technically announced before the budget but linked...) *** From April 2025 the following minimum wage rates will apply: * 21 and over - will rise from £11.44 to £12.21 an hour * 18-20 - will rise from £8.60 to £10 an hour * Apprentices - will rise from £6.40 to £7.55 an hour This is a big increase and, actually, it represents the largest increase for those under 21 on record and all seems to be one step towards creating one set minimum wage rate for all adults. *** National Insurance increases *** The government have announced a 1.2% point increase in the NI rate paid by employers from April 2025. Additionally, the threshold at which employers start to pay NI on worker's earnings will drop from £9,100 a year to £5,000 a year. *** Employment allowance increased *** At the same time, to help smaller businesses, employment allowance will be increased from £5,000 to £10,5000. The Chancellor estimated that this will result in 865,000 employers not paying any NI at all next year, while 1million employers will pay the same or less than they did previously. *** No additional freeze on personal tax thresholds *** The Chancellor made clear in today's budget that there will be no extension of the previous government's freeze on income tax and NI thresholds. That means the thresholds will be uprated in line with inflation from 2028 - 2029. As we navigate these (and all the other) changes, it’s vital for all employers to engage with legal experts aka your friendly neighbourhood employment lawyers to ensure they’re not only compliant but also fostering a positive and productive workplace. That's where Precept can help, so get in touch! #doinglawdifferently #budget #employmentlaw

Our next online event is on Wednesday 13 November 2024 and the topic is "Recruitment Top Tips and Tricks". Getting the employment relationship right from day 1 is vital. It sets the groundwork for what the employment relationship will look like and will hopefully make for a long and happy relationship. Getting it wrong can be very risky for employers exposing them to difficult members of staff and ultimately employment tribunal claims. In this session we’ll cover the basics of recruitment and then take a deep dive into the more complicated (but equally important) areas that aren’t often covered so you’re fully armed with the knowledge to help you perfect your recruitment processes. Plus you’ll get your chance to see the Precept Players latest showstopper as they present a mock interview using their usual wit and charm to demonstrate exactly what not to do during an interview. Get your tickets now! Date of event: Wednesday 13 November 2024 Timings: The event will start at 10am and finish at 11am Location: Online Book Here: https://lnkd.in/de-3AXX3

Back from an amazing holiday in Madeira feeling recharged 🌿 ✨ What an fantastic island, we went on a sunrise hike 🌄 (picture below, as promised from my article last week!) which was incredible, filled up on bolo do caco (a traditional, very tasty, bread), tried the poncha 🍹, and toured some of the amazing landscapes, such as the slightly surreal misty fanal forest and little towns. We will be going back for sure, and if you are planning a trip there I would be happy to recommend some places. Feeling excited to dive back into work! #backtowork #doinglawdifferently

Don't you just love it when you receive an unexpected email that makes you smile in a very heartwarming way? We're committed to developing and living our Values and our colleagues have recently been attending our EDI workshops to grow awareness. We're also dog friendly here at Agilitas! Yesterday, one of our work colleagues brought her dog into work with her. Another one of our work colleagues also brings his dog into work on Fridays. Our work colleagues tell me that many like to spend time with their work colleagues pets on the days they bring them in including taking them for a walk to have a short break in the fresh air, which we know is great for wellbeing etc. My smile was caused by the inclusiveness of our coach who has also awarded Poppy a certificate of attendance. Sometimes it really is about the little things isn't it? #EDI #inclusion #dogfriendly #wellbeing
