Participating in the European Association for the Study of Gambling (EASG) in Rome, Francesco Rodano, Playtech's Chief Policy Officer, recently participated in a panel to discuss the use of artificial intelligence in responsible gaming. Francesco emphasised that the industry has been using AI tools like BetBuddy for over 14 years to detect problem gambling behaviours early and highlighted the shift from traditional methods to more personalised, AI-driven approaches, particularly in markets like Italy.   "AI can process vast amounts of data to extract valuable insights about player behaviour. If trained correctly, it can identify players potentially at risk of developing gambling problems at an early stage. This allows for timely, personalised interventions that can positively influence player behaviour," Francesco explained. "However, the most effective ways to intervene are still being explored, with different approaches across jurisdictions. There's still much to learn and study."   Francesco also touched on future possibilities: "AI opens up exciting avenues for more advanced interactions, including chatbots, real-time interventions, and sentiment analysis. Recent American Gaming Association (AGA) research shows that Responsible Gambling (RG) efforts are improving in the US, for both land-based casinos and sports betting. Over the past twelve months, more Americans than ever are participating in gaming-related entertainment, only highlighting the need for an increased focus on responsible gaming awareness among players. The focus of the AGA survey was responsible gambling – 65% of overall respondents said the US gaming industry is sincere in its RG efforts, up from 55% last year. That figure increases to 81% for active casino goers and 88% for active sports bettors with last year’s totals sitting at 70% and 78%. This exposure and increasing familiarity with the gaming industry is driving widespread recognition of the industry’s commitment to operating responsibly and positively impacting the community where it operates.
