Team building is more than just a break from the day to day rigmarole of the office; it’s an essential “responsible business” approach to bringing people together in fun and different manners to build trust and enhance performance. Fostering a real sense of team collaboration, we can improve our abilities to solve problems, actively listen to each other and build lasting respectful relationships.   Last week our first cohort of “Responsible Managers” headed to the New Forest for 2 engaging days brimming with activities to bring to life and embed our Responsible Business Strategy. The team undertook a number of games and challenges to emphasise some of the key theories that we centre our Responsible Business Strategy on, highlighting facets of teamwork, good communication, and looking internally at our own behaviours and habits; all while aligning to our company purpose and values.   At Platinum we know that Investing in team building activities is an investment on our culture, a culture where our people feel connected to the company and to one another.   It was great to see the team throw themselves into each activity, the camaraderie that has developed along with the memories they will all keep makes events like these worth their weight in gold.    #teambuilding #responsiblebusiness #proudtobeplatinum

Platinum is dedicated to making a positive impact through responsible business practices and active community involvement. Our Social Value Working Group is committed to ensuring our business fulfills its purpose through volunteering and meaningful initiatives, driving a positive workplace culture and making a difference in our local communities. At the end of June, 6 of our Fareham based team members utilised one of their annual volunteering days to assist one of our Social Value Working Groups commitments, to “support our chosen, local charities”. Sophie’s Legacy arranged a cycling challenge, “Seven for Sophie”, which was designed to encourage visitors at a local shopping centre to participate in reaching a cumulative goal of 300km cycled during the day, while raising money and receiving donations for their fantastic charity. Our team members put on a great show helping Sophie’s Legacy reach their targets by driving contributions and testing their cycling skills. We are grateful for the opportunities to be able to give back to our local community and to help support our chosen charities. Great work from everyone involved.

In preparation for Team Platinum’s South Downs Way Challenge in September, keen members of the team have been meeting up once a month (in addition to their daily training) to walk sections of the South Downs Way.   On Saturday a number of our keen hikers met up at 8:00am at Queen Elizabeth Country Park to walk the c.25 miles from Buriton to Winchester.   The trail took in some fantastic views of the South Downs & the team completed the 25 miles in approx. 8 hours & achieved 2772ft in elevation gain.   To sponsor our team in their epic 106 mile hike to raise funds for one of our partner charities, Sophie’s Legacy, please visit: https://lnkd.in/e94CNmkJ

There were some early starts for our teams this month with 3 concurrent HV/LV Shutdowns, each being carried out over the weekends to ensure minimal disruption to our clients and the building occupiers.   The projects all ran seamlessly thanks to our teams and our supply partners meticulous planning as well as our clients’ unwavering support; don’t take our word for it though, here is some fantastic feedback we received from one of our clients:   “Thank you for your email and call earlier once mains power had been restored to the building at 11:39. Please pass my thanks and a huge "well done" to the whole team, for their great teamwork, communication and appreciation of our and our occupiers' requirements and expectations. The tight noisy work restrictions (running two generators) imposed upon us by the local Council, along with the retailers staggered operating times, being surrounded by residential neighbours, not to mention plans to commence live broadcasting at 13:30 today (!!) made this a significantly challenging operation. The exercise today was very well-coordinated and could not have gone better. Well done everyone, a remarkable achievement!”   Well done to everyone involved, particularly our Technical and on-site Operational teams.

On the 23rd June, we celebrated International Women in Engineering Day; a day to recognise the achievements and contributions of women in the field of engineering.   At Platinum we consistently strive to break down barriers and empower women, promote diversity and inclusion, and inspire the next generation of women to dream big and make their mark in engineering and STEM careers.   Today we celebrate the females of Platinum, who work tirelessly to drive innovation and transform the Facilities industry. Whether that is leading a team, undertaking engineering works, handling administration, dealing with company finances, or ensuring a safe, healthy and environmentally sustainable workplace, each of them plays an integral role in the success of our business.   Here are some of our fantastic women based at our Fareham Head Office who keep the “wheels turning” every day.   #INWED24 #ProudtobePlatinum #WomenInEngineering

Centered around our commitments to SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals, we know that to achieve great outcomes for our valued clients, we must supply effective self-delivered services while creating positive social impacts through our communities. We are therefore pleased to announce that we have launched our new Water Treatment Division, specialising in the self-delivery of closed systems, open systems and cooling towers for L8 compliance. As such, we are now recruiting for water treatment engineers, cooling tower engineers and water treatment supervisors and managers. 10 of our Platinum team members will be taking part in a gruelling 4 day, 106 mile walk, along the entire length of the South Downs Way to raise money for one of our chosen charities in September this year.   Our courageous team members will be taking on the punishing South Downs challenge for Sophie’s Legacy, an amazing charity, local to our Fareham Head Office. Sophie’s Legacy was founded in memory of Sophie Fairall, who passed away in September 2021 from a rare childhood cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma. Sophie left a legacy of change she wanted to create, and as such Sophie’s mother, Charlotte, who has taken time to visit our Fareham office and talk to us about the charity and the fantastic work they do, has built “Sophie’s Legacy” in her memory. At Platinum we love nothing more than recognising the hard work and endeavours of our teams. Recently we rewarded our site team for achieving a 95% external audit score for the second quarter in a row on one of our valued client sites.   Matt Hellicar, Operations Director commented “When our team took over the maintenance of this property the previous incumbents external audit score was just 38%. To not only achieve, but maintain a 95% audit score, demonstrates both the considerable efforts and consistent levels of service excellence our team members exhibit on a daily basis”.   Well done everyone, keep up the fantastic work and enjoy your vouchers.

It was a pleasure to see our SHEQ Manager, Kalil Vandi, accept our RoSPA President’s award last week, recognising 10 consecutive years of RoSPA Golds.   This award demonstrates our ongoing and unwavering commitment to implement, embed and maintain our exceptionally high Health and Safety Standards.   Our Director of People, Culture and Shared Services, Lynsey Storm, comments, “This is an amazing accomplishment for Platinum. The award underpins the importance we put on the wellbeing and safety of our team members, supply chain partners and clients and is clear recognition of the continued hard work of both our fantastic site teams and our SHEQ department.”   Well done to everyone involved in achieving this award and thank you to all our team members for living our values daily.

To ensure we are delivering "Responsible Change", it’s critical that our Responsible Business Strategy is reinforced by our values and responsible governance. Our strategy articulates how our colleagues should act and how our business will support excellent delivery to our client base.   We translate our actions through departmental plans, linked to key performance indicators, flowing down from our materiality commitments.   Our Governance committee meets regularly to review the health of our business, using our unique PULSE measurement system, providing transparency and accountability.
