Watch the video below for a virtual tour inside our #advancedrecycling plant with SABIC in Geleen, the Netherlands. The joint venture (SABIC Plastic Energy Advanced Recycling B.V.) is in its final stages of construction, and will have a capacity of 20,000 tonnes of #plasticwaste per year when operational. With the completion of this plant, we hope to reduce the amount of plastic waste going to landfill and incineration, and create a more #circulareconomy for plastics in the Netherlands, and Europe.
About us

Our statement of solidarity following the Spanish floods: As a company with its founding and continued operations in the Andalucía region of Spain, this crisis has had a deep impact on us. While our sites have remained untouched, like so many, we have witnessed the devastation. We extend our deepest sympathies to the flood affected regions. Our thoughts are particularly with those who have lost their lives, lost loved ones, or had their lives irrevocably altered as a result of these disasters. As a company, we will be making a private donation to the recovery effort, and we have shared a link below for anyone who wishes to contribute. 📢 ICYMI - on Wednesday the UK government announced an agreement to adopt mass balance accounting for plastic recycled content. We are pleased to see them recognise the benefits and complementarity between mechanical and chemical #recycling. They also acknowledged the need to support the scale-up and investment in advanced chemical recycling technologies. 📈♻ We encourage the European Union and other governments to follow suit and ensure chemical recycling can be rolled out globally. https://bit.ly/3AbkWiT

📢 What does chemical recycling look like in practice? And how can it be deployed at scale? Last week, our Head of Policy and Sustainability Adela Putinelu spoke at #Sustpack2024 organised by Smithers, where she discussed the important role #chemicalrecycling has to play in increasing overall #plasticsrecycling rates in Europe. ♻ The new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation will boost market demand for recycled content in all types of plastic packaging. Chemical recycling is needed at scale to achieve the target for contact sensitive plastics and increase overall recycling rates. While this ambitious piece of legislation is a good first step, implementation and enforcement are key to incentivise the market and step up investment in #chemicalrecycling.

📢 Ahead of the final UN Global Plastics Treaty talks next month, there must be a coordinated global effort to tackle the #plastic waste crisis. 🌍 A range of solutions, including investment and policies to boost plastics #recycling, are needed to reduce #plasticpollution worldwide.
Ellen MacArthur, founder of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and Christiana Figueres, Costa Rican diplomat and ex-Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, meet with BBC Chief Presenter Sumi Somaskanda at New York City’s Climate Week to discuss the Global Plastics Treaty. Listen in as Ellen and Christiana explain this once-in-a-generation opportunity to tackle the root causes of plastic pollution in a globally coordinated way. Watch the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/eMRUXfHX Many solutions are known. Major voluntary efforts convened by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and others have shown what is possible and the effectiveness of collective action. An international treaty based on global rules addressing the full plastics life cycle – how we make, use, manage, and reuse plastics – is the best chance we have to scale those to a global level. The final negotiations for a UN Global Plastics Treaty will take place in Busan, Korea this November. Global rules can transform the plastics system to benefit people and prevent plastic waste from being created in the first place. Governments must seize this chance and agree to an ambitious treaty with legally-binding, global rules across the plastics life cycle. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eFBuQe4c This interview aired on BBC World News America on the 25th of September 2024, at 5pm ET.

📢 As part of our #circularsummer campaign, we shared how our #chemicalrecycling process works. But how does it compare to traditional mechanical #plasticsrecycling? Let's break down the differences below - and explain how the two complement one another. 🔘 First, how do the two processes work? Mechanical recycling usually involves shredding, melting, and reforming plastics into new items without changing their molecular structure, while chemical recycling breaks plastics down into their original building blocks. 🔘 Which plastics do we recycle? We chemically recycle film and flexible plastic waste destined for landfill or incineration. This complements mechanical recycling which cannot recycle all types of plastic into food grade packaging. 🔘 How common are both methods? Mechanical recycling is responsible for the bulk of plastic recycling, while chemical recycling is a newer technology, operating at commercial scale for less than a decade.
