Thanks to the Recycling Improvement Fund, Perth & Kinross Council has received £2.7 million to improve their kerbside and city centre recycling service. The funding was used to: • Introduce recycling services to over 1,000 properties in Perth City Centre. • Improve recycling in existing city centre bin hubs and introducing food waste housing units • Modify recycling collections to 73,000 kerbside properties These changes were supported by the council’s ‘Recycle Right’ campaign. They have already seen success with an increase in recycling rates, decrease in contamination rates and a reduction in residual waste. Discover more: https://ow.ly/LBiH50TyYPF

For #ScottishClimateWeek, learn more about Aberfeldy who are aspiring to be Scotland’s healthiest town by improving health and creating positive climate actions. Born from the desire of local health practitioners to encourage and enable the community to be as healthy as possible, the project focuses on four key areas: eating real food, moving more, connecting with others and nature, and maintaining balance. The Healthiest Town project addresses the widely known issues around food quality, which negatively impact both human and environmental health. By promoting food that benefits both people and the planet, they work with local growers, farmers, businesses, and food projects to develop a comprehensive plan of action. Current activities include developing a local food network, revisiting the Aberfeldy Manifesto from 1974, launching a widespread campaign on the benefits of local, healthy food, and recently hosting the Open Gate festival. This week-long event featured open farms and gardens, workshops, speaker events, and more, all centered around local food and sustainability. Additionally, the Too Good to Waste campaign tackles food waste in collaboration with local businesses and restaurants, while cooking workshops and support for food growing initiatives help educate and engage the community. Schools are also supported in their efforts around food, growing, and climate action. The Healthiest Town project continues to grow, creating a long-term food plan for Highland Perthshire that brings benefits to the local community, environment, economy, and people. ❗ Unauthorised access to some emails - including supplier information ❗ On 23 September 2024, Perth and Kinross Council detected unauthorised access to a limited number of emails. This incident involved one user's email account and access to emails containing invoicing data from some of our service providers. The breach was identified and secured promptly, but eight emails were accessed. Some of these emails had attachments which may also have been accessed which contained bank account numbers and sort codes of some businesses, individual suppliers and commercial waste customers. Rest assured, this incident does not affect recipients of other Council services, such as welfare payments or payments made for Council Tax and housing rent. We will directly contact affected individuals to inform them as soon as possible. In the meantime, we urge everyone to be cautious of any unusual emails claiming to be from Perth and Kinross Council. Always verify that emails come from @pkc.gov.uk addresses and be wary of unexpected changes or requests and treat links and attachments with caution. If something seems off, please speak to your usual Council contact using a different communication method than the one given on the email you are concerned about. We take the protection of personal and company information very seriously and are very sorry for the inconvenience and concern that this incident has caused. #SecurityAlert #StaySafe

This week, our Perth and Kinross Climate Action team is celebrating both #ScottishClimateWeek and Global Goals Week, with the inspiring theme "Stories for Change". Climate change and sustainable development might seem like different issues, but they are deeply connected. Every action we take to combat climate change also supports our sustainable development goals. Sharing stories about climate change is one of the most powerful ways to inspire the behaviours changes needed for a healthier, happier Scotland. During this week, we'll be highlighting stories of climate action in Perth and Kinross. First up is Abernyte Primary School - a small and mighty school who leading by example in their community: "Abernyte Primary School’s Eco Committee and Miss Sangster are hosting a One Planet Picnic in the school grounds to celebrate Climate Week 2024. "Our One Planet Picnic event aims to think sustainably by reducing food waste and encourage creativity with seasonal foods. "On this day, everyone is encouraged to bring seasonal foods that they have grown in their gardens or from their local community, which can be shared with one another as a picnic in the school playing field. "We make sure that the snacks, ingredients and food provided for our One Planet Picnic use local and seasonal foods. If they are imported, we look for fairly traded foods. The event also aims to avoid single-use plastic (such as drink cartons, packets and wrappers). "It’s a great excuse to spend a bit of time discovering new foods or rediscovering old favourites. Examples of foods that could be brought are; jam made from garden fruits, sandwiches filled with local grown vegetables and juice made from pressed fruits. "The Eco Committee plan to work sustainably towards their climate action Eco-School plan with this event. The event has been a previous success, and we hope to bring friends and families together again for this year’s picnic!" Stay tuned for more inspiring stories and find out what actions you can take at https://lnkd.in/dG3Ebf8j
