Imagine a job market where every individual, no matter their background, has an equal chance to succeed, where your business helps drive economic growth and social inclusion. Picture your team coming into work knowing their efforts are contributing to real, positive change, not just for the company, but for communities across the UK. For too long, untapped talent has been left out of the job market, but now you can change that! By signing the Social Recruitment Covenant, your business commits to fairer hiring, addressing the barriers faced by NEET youth, carers, single parents, ex-offenders, and people with disabilities. The Social Recruitment Covenant is more than a pledge; it’s an opportunity to diversify your talent pool while helping to build a stronger economy. Social recruitment ensures those furthest from the job market can access sustainable employment, benefiting both your business and society. Last week, we ran the "More than a Book" initiative across the prisons where we deliver education. This year’s theme, "Reading for All," focused on making reading accessible and enjoyable for everyone, especially those who have faced barriers to reading. Learners engaged in various activities like creating book covers that told their own stories, designing art inspired by famous novels, and learnt about famous authors who wrote books in prison. The teams also took the event beyond traditional books and explored themes like neurodiversity, mental health, and alternative forms of storytelling. Want to know more about how this initiative is making a difference? Last night at HMP Sudbury learners on our catering and hospitality courses cooked and served 100 guests in a fine dining pop up experience at the prison's 'Secret Diner'. Michelin standard duo Kate & Lee from Restaurant Lovage trained the men throughout the day and evening to ensure a silver service and exceptional food! The event was organised by The Right Course, whose founder and trustee fred sirieix hosted the evening. We also collaborated with the Employment & Advisory Board to ensure guests in the room were employers and community stakeholders who can offer the men job opportunities either on ROTL or release. We'll be sharing a video of the evening with you next week!

In a rapidly evolving job market, acquiring new skills is key to improving employment prospects and contributing to both individual success and societal wellbeing. However, for many individuals who speak English as a second language, access to effective learning resources can be limited. That’s why LearningPlus offers courses in 31 languages, creating a more inclusive educational environment and contributing to a more equitable workforce. This article explains how our approach not only promotes inclusion but also generates significant social value by empowering individuals to enhance their employability and contribute to a more equitable workforce. If you would like to know more about how you can utilise LearningPlus for your learners or employees, please contact Lydia Alice Baker or email [email protected]. #Inclusion #Equity #MultilingualLearning #Education

Driving Social Value & Inclusion | Empowering Communities Through Strategic Partnerships | Resource Operations Coordinator at Amey

Last week, Amey hosted the Socially Recruited Advocacy Group in Birmingham. We highlighted Amey’s pioneering efforts in social recruitment, earning the title “A trailblazer for the UK.” Jessica, one of our own, shared her inspiring journey of being hired through our Journey to Work events and how the opportunity changed her life. “𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺. 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭-𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦, 𝘪𝘯-𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴!” The Socially Recruited Advocacy Group, founded by PeoplePlus UK, encourages employers to focus on recruiting individuals who face significant challenges in the labour market. Amey is proud to be a Gold Chartered Member, a recognition of our commitment to high standards and best practices in social value recruitment. The event also featured several speakers, including Laura-Jane Rawlings MBE DL from Youth Employment UK, who presented the latest youth census results. We concluded with a panel discussion on creating a new Skills and Growth levy with UK training providers, chaired by Rt Hon Anne Milton. It was a fantastic day with many businesses united by the shared goal of making recruitment diverse and accessible to all. We are excited to be invited by the Socially Recruited Advocacy Group (SRAG) to the official launch of the Social Recruitment Covenant at the House of Commons. This landmark event aims to unite businesses, charities, and education providers across the UK in making public, meaningful commitments to improve recruitment, retention, and development of staff who face significant challenges in the labour market. The Covenant focuses on addressing intersectionality to create a truly inclusive working world, and we are proud to support this initiative as it aligns with our ongoing commitment to social value recruitment. I am proud of the work we are doing here at Amey, right across the business to ensure we give people the opportunity to thrive with us, no matter what background they may have (it really is a great role!). As we celebrate National Inclusion Week, we reaffirm our commitment to being part of Socially Recruited all year round, ensuring our recruitment practices remain inclusive and accessible to everyone. #Nationalinclusionweek #Sociallyrecruited #Socialrecruitment #Socialvalue
