We are a reuse practice

About us

Page\Park is an award-winning architectural practice undertaking work across the UK from our studio offices in Glasgow and Leeds. We are an Employee Owned Business reflecting our culture of sharing ownership and responsibility across all that we do. Founded in 1981, Page\Park Architects has grown from a small Glasgow-based partnership to a busy employee owned practice of thirty-five staff with offices in Glasgow and Leeds. Over the years, we have earned a reputation for excellence in design and delivery across the UK, providing responsive solutions rooted in the needs and experience of local users and communities. We have an unwavering practice ethos: of being a creative community, united by a common purpose to design creatively, with integrity, and to make a difference. We have never delivered two buildings the same, nor presumed that a solution for one client will be appropriate for another. We are defined by a determination to challenge and persist, until we uncover the right answers for our clients.

Our project at North Gate in the Gorbals of Glasgow has today received a coveted RIBA National Award. The project is testament to the long-term commitment by New Gorbals Housing Association to invest in collaborative, design-led urban regeneration, creating a lasting urban environment that bucks the trend of cyclical demolition. The client brief challenged us to create high quality socially rented flats that would become life-enhancing homes for the tenants, all within tight budgets imposed by the social housing grant funding regime. More than this, the building had to act as the gateway to the New Gorbals, and a landmark at the end of Glasgow’s oldest thoroughfare. We like to think it has become the ‘Crown of Crown Street’ as the original masterplan intended. We are elated to have the project recognised by the RIBA alongside exceptional works across the UK, showing that good design transcends budget. Congratulations to our client and to the entire team for this amazing achievement as well as Project Architect James Brimble CCG (Scotland) Ltd G3 Consulting Engineers Ltd. It has been fascinating joining the conversations this week as European Heritage Hub have visited Glasgow and in particular Pollok Park Stables. We are thrilled to be working alongside a passionate design team and client to help restore Pollok Park Stables & Sawmill, bringing the buildings into the 21st century with considered retrofit approaches which will create a wonderful #NetZero Living Heritage Centre. You can find out more about the project on our website, and we look forward to sharing more details soon. https://lnkd.in/dxdFaj5U Vicky Mitchell John Brown Glasgow City Council hub West Scotland

We are extremely saddened by the news last week that Hoskins Architects have ceased trading in the UK. The architectural industry in Glasgow is close knit, and the closure of this truly outstanding practice affects close friends and family of many of our colleagues at Page\Park. This is a stark reminder of the challenges faced within our industry, and the degree of commercial uncertainty and pressure that architectural practices are exposed to day in day out. This should and must serve as a point of reflection for our industry; a thriving creative profession cannot and must not be taken for granted. The role of architect is under increasing pressure, with ever increasing complexity of scope and responsibility, twinned with tightening fees and payment terms, transfer of risk, uncertain project programmes and unpredictable project pauses and delays caused by uncertainty around funding situations and statutory process. Hoskins has been a hugely valued part of the architectural community in Scotland and beyond for many years, completing numerous projects of exceptional quality that will endure as part of their legacy of true architectural excellence. We wish all of those affected the very best for the future. The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) https://lnkd.in/eYx4cqfD

It has been one year since our project at the wonderful Hyde Park Picture House completed and the cinema reopened its doors to the public, following an extensive refurbishment and redevelopment. We wanted to celebrate by sharing some of the beautiful photographs recently taken by Jim Stephenson. At its heart, our project with Hyde Park was about people and community. As a cherished cultural landmark of Leeds, it was crucial that the redevelopment was approached with the utmost care and sensitivity.   Through extensive consultation and briefing, the team worked closely with the Picture House and it's community to make the historic building more accessible and better equipped for a modern audience. To ensure the redevelopment retained Hyde Park's cosy and welcoming atmosphere, the design of new elements took cues from the original building's colour scheme and materiality. Many of the original cinema's unique architectural features have also been brought into the spotlight and integrated into the new extension, blending the new with the old.

We are excited to attend the Scottish Design Awards this evening where our project Hyde Park Picture House is nominated in the Retrofit category. The redevelopment project consisted of three key aspects; comprehensive conservation works to the original cinema building, construction of a new 3-storey extension to offer better access / facilities for the building, and finally a new 50-seat second screen excavated from the basement to increase revenue. Alongside these physical alterations to the building, the project aimed to celebrate the cinema’s rich history, bringing its architectural features to the spotlight – including the gas lighting. You can find out more here: https://lnkd.in/ebcyVGBg Good luck to all the shortlisted entries! Mark Johnston John Brown Buro Happold

Looking forward to the Scottish Design Awards tonight, where our Hyde Park Picture House project is nominated in the Retrofit category. It's great project that shows what can be achieved with an ambitious client, some creative thinking, and of course skillful delivery by Mark Johnston! The project was delivered with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, creating a second basement screen and new accessible facilities to give the cinema a sustainable future. Net Zero Heritage: Challenges in Practice - New speakers announced! On Wednesday, June 26th at 6pm Page\Park are hosting a panel of professionals from different areas of the industry to discuss their knowledge and experience of Net-Zero Heritage projects, followed by an open Q&A. Tickets are free and available here: https://lnkd.in/ePEbw_4G The schedule will be: 18:00 18:15 – Drinks reception 18:15 – 18:30 Intro and Case study (Rosslyn Castle) 18:30 – 19:15 Panel Discussion, Q&A 19:15 – 20:00 Refreshments/ Social With the Scottish Government’s net-zero emissions target for 2045, we see stakeholders in the built environment prioritising more sustainable approaches to the building-cycle. Equally, the industry is pushing for more re-use of existing buildings which often hold historical significance or heritage value. When it comes to net-zero heritage projects, a tension between intervention required for safeguarding a building’s significance and intervention required for low embodied and operational carbon creates difficulties and challenges in practice. In a spirit of knowledge-sharing and collaboration, Page\Park is hosting a panel night to openly discuss these challenges from the perspective of different built environment professionals. Come along and join in on our discussion!
