Our goal is to enable the analysis of anything, by anyone, anywhere.
About us
Our goal is to enable the analysis of anything, anywhere, by anyone. We have developed the world’s first and only nanopore DNA and RNA sequencing platform. It’s a new generation of sequencing technology — the only one to offer: scalability to portable or ultra-high throughput formats, real-time data delivery, and the ability to elucidate rich biological data. We are aiming to disrupt the way that biological analyses are currently performed, and open up new applications that have a profound, positive impact on society. Our devices offer real-time analysis, for rapid insights, in fully scalable formats — from pocket to population scale — and the technology is being used in more than 100 countries worldwide. Founded in 2005 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford, the company now employs more than 600 people from multiple disciplines including nanopore science, molecular biology and applications, informatics, engineering, electronics, manufacturing and commercialisation. The management team, led by CEO Dr Gordon Sanghera, has a track record of delivering disruptive technologies to the market.

What you're missing matters, and long-read sequencing enables access to the dark regions of the genome, not previously accessible by short-read technologies. In this video Joris Vermeesch, Professor of Molecular Cytogenetics and Genome research at KU Leuven, explains why they'll be using Oxford Nanopore Technologies long-read sequencing for a large part of the 10 000 genomes they will sequence as part of the Genomes of Europe, kicking ⚽ off soon. #wymm #nanopore #genomics #sequencing

Whole-genome sequencing (#WGS) can be inefficient, costly, and time-consuming if your goal is to study a single gene or specific genomic regions, or in clinical research settings where time-to-answer matters. Targeted enrichment methods offer an alternative by sequencing only the regions of interest, reducing your sequencing time and increasing your depth of coverage — yet are hindered by limited coverage, bias and complexity. In contrast, as DNA/RNA passes through a nanopore its sequence is decoded in real time, it is, therefore, possible to reject sequencing reads that are not of interest. This targeted sequencing method, called Adaptive sampling, is unique to nanopore technology and leaves the nanopore available for the target of interest.
