  • Last week, we celebrated summer with our fourth annual ‘Back Together’ summer event ☀️   Our ‘Back Together’ events offer teams a chance to take a break from the traditional work day and spend some much-deserved time together. This year was extra special as it marked 50 years of Otsuka Europe – a fantastic milestone and a great opportunity to not only reflect on our amazing journey so far but to look forward to what’s to come.   Here's how we celebrated...   🏫 Originally an old boys' school, we met at the Beaumont Estate – the perfect venue for our ‘Back to School’ theme which transported us back to 1974. We welcomed a special guest ‘headmistress’ to ensure we were embodying our Otsuka values of integrity, compassion, collaboration, excellence and creativity.   🎪 We held our very own Fresher’s Fayre to showcase the key roles our teams play in making Otsuka Europe a strong and vibrant work environment.   🏆 Our teams took part in some healthy competition as 'year groups' competed in a series of classic sports day activities.   🎁 We each participated in challenges as part of our ‘Give Back Day’ where we were able to earn donations for our corporate charity, Rosie’s Rainbow Fund.    🎒 We gave a warm welcome to our 11 new 2024/2025 interns, who have joined different areas for their ‘year in industry’ as part of their university programmes.   We are incredibly grateful to have opportunities like these to spend time together, foster community spirit and celebrate our successes as one.    We can’t wait to see what the second half of 2024 has in store!

  • As part of our Uniquely Otsuka series, we would like to cast our spotlight on Otsuka’s Museum of Art - the world’s first and only ceramic art museum! 🎨 Built in 1998, to celebrate Otsuka’s 75th anniversary, this innovative museum houses over 1,000 full-size ceramic reproductions of major works of art, including, Monet’s Nympheas, Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and Picasso’s Guernica. This venue also houses the original size reproduction of the ceiling and wall painting by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. The concept for this museum was developed by the Otsuka family who were keen to give back to the people of Tokushima and give local people the opportunity to see some of the most iconic pieces of global artwork. Most of the displayed collection has been created using a special manufacturing technique, ensuring that the colours and shapes will remain unchanged for at least 2,000 years. This museum has the largest exhibition space in Japan, with a total floor space of 29,412 square metres (316,588 square feet) and we are delighted for it to be enjoyed by both present and future generations. We hope that you will be able to visit one day. https://lnkd.in/ebqTQfyq

  • At Otsuka we always aim to do things differently! • This year we are delighted to be celebrating a very important anniversary milestone - 50 years of Otsuka in Europe! Our first offices opened in Europe in 1974 and we now have over 500 employees working across five therapy areas in Europe. This incredible achievement would not have been possible without the dedication, passion, and hard work of our employees, partners, and collaborators. Thank you to everyone who has been part of Otsuka’s exciting journey in Europe over the last five decades. As we celebrate this major milestone, we look forward to our next 50 years where we will continue to channel our creativity and compassion into everything we do🎉 Learn more about Otsuka in Europe here: https://lnkd.in/eKAgmY55

  • As part of our forward-looking outlook at Otsuka Europe, we want to invest in our future generation. With this in mind, we offer an internship programme, which provides invaluable experience for students to gain real-world skills in specific business areas.   Last June we welcomed a few interns to our Communications, Ethics and Compliance, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Management, and Pipeline and Supply Chain teams and now sadly it is time to say thank you and farewell as they go back to their various universities to complete their studies.   This group recently had the opportunity to give presentations to senior members of our organisation based on the topic ‘My Learnings and Achievements’, and it was great to hear how they have developed over their 12 months with us! They also had the chance to talk to our President and CEO, Andy Hodge, to hear about his career journey and the advice he had for those starting out in the pharmaceutical industry.   We are incredibly proud to be able to welcome young people into the pharmaceutical world, and help them build on the confidence, skills, and knowledge they need to continue their journey. • In the next instalment of our Uniquely Otsuka series, we’re sharing how Otsuka employees are encouraged to think differently and be both creative and curious.   At our Tokushima office in Japan, our balanced bent cedar tree, giant tomato tree and floating stone monuments remind us to always try to think beyond the conventional. By nurturing the creative potential of our people, we encourage them to push the boundaries of their knowledge and to persevere with their ideas.   Rather than simply following industry trends, we aim to tackle some of the world’s unresolved health challenges through our mindset. Supporting our people to be trendsetters allows them to take on challenges and discover out-of-the-box solutions to global health issues.   You can learn more about our culture and philosophy on our website here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eTwJBC_V

  • To kick off our new ‘Uniquely Otsuka’ series, we will start at the beginning, sharing the story of how Otsuka began - over 100 years ago! In 1921, Busaburo Otsuka, a farmer’s son, broke with tradition and set up a company manufacturing chemical raw materials in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan – currently known as Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory Inc. Back then, the company had just ten employees. By 1946 his son, Masahito, turned the business into an intravenous (IV) solution company, which went on to become the largest supplier of IV solutions to hospitals in Japan. In 1964, the present Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. was established. Today the Otsuka group has around 34,000 employees and has been aiming to improve health and well-being of people worldwide for over a century. • At Otsuka, we are committed to tackling some of the world’s unresolved health challenges, always taking a patient-centric view. Globally, 24 million people live with schizophrenia, a potentially devastating disease which often has a significant impact on all areas of their life and daily living. Despite this, lack of awareness, particularly of early symptoms, stigma and discrimination can prevent individuals from seeking or accessing the support they need. Join us on this World Schizophrenia Day to raise awareness, foster acceptance and promote accessibility for people living with schizophrenia 💙

  • Today Otsuka is standing alongside patients, families and caregivers to mark the annual hereditary angioedema (HAE) awareness day and help raise awareness of this disease.       So what is HAE?    HAE is an autosomal dominant disease caused by a deficiency in functional C1 inhibitor. The condition is characterised by recurrent episodes of oedema – which is swelling in various parts of the body. This typically involves the arms, legs, hands, feet, bowels, genitalia, trunk, face, tongue or larynx.       Despite recent advancements in the care for patients, the condition has a substantial impact on people’s lives and often is difficult to manage.       This year’s HAE awareness day theme is “Many Faces, One Family”.   At Otsuka, we are proud to be part of this worldwide family standing alongside patients, relatives and caregivers. This day also brings home the importance of our continued research and hard work, in collaboration with Ionis Pharmaceuticals, aiming to improve peoples’ lives.    OPE-NPR-2400023 (v1.0) | May 2024

  • This World Lupus Day, we want to help raise awareness of the physical, emotional, economic and social impact that lupus has on both individuals and their families 💜   Lupus is a complex autoimmune disease that can affect any organ in the body and often results in kidney damage.   There are over five million people worldwide living with the condition and, we understand that lupus doesn’t only impact the people living with it, but also their families and caregivers.   At Otsuka Europe, we are supportive of the World Lupus Federation’s goal to improve patient healthcare services, increase research into the condition and diagnose patients earlier.   Check out the link below to learn more about World Lupus Day.
