“It took 60 years — less than a human lifetime — for classical computing to advance from Bletchley’s one-tonne Colossus to the launch of the first iPhone. If quantum computing can advance at a similar rate, the scale of the impact on mankind could be even greater.” But how does quantum compute differ from classical compute? And how could this cutting-edge technology impact our lives in the future? We are delighted to have worked with Ben Spencer on this piece for The Sunday Times. If you haven’t already, explore the potential of quantum computing with insights from our CEO, Gerald Mullally, and Quantum Engineer, George Long, here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eVUySH6N
Quantum computing is being heralded as the giant technological leap that could help solve humanity’s most pressing problems. But what on earth is it? Ben Spencer asks the British scientists at the forefront of a revolution. 🔗 Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/e4z9bYnQ

What are qudits? 🤔 While qubits are two-level systems that can be in state 0 or 1, or a superposition of both, qudits are multi-level computational units: systems with more than two levels. A qudit is a d-level quantum system where d can be any integer greater than 2. Qudits could be advantageous because: - they increase information capacity, as the state space is expanded to include more levels - they open the way for quantum algorithms to be more efficiently implemented because qudits can perform more complex operations with fewer gates - they could lead to shorter circuit depths and potentially lower error rates Read more about qudits and their use in our TL:DR of Leek Labs recent research paper 👉 https://lnkd.in/e9ZEBM3x

Did you know that the data centre industry consumes a significant amount of energy - between 196 to 400 terawatt-hours annually, equivalent to 1% to 2% of global energy usage? With the power of quantum compute, we could see a reduction in the energy required to operate these centres with some studies indicating that quantum computing, for specific problems, would consume much less than 1% of the power of high performance computers. By deploying our quantum devices in data centres, through colocation, we have been able to integrate quantum computers with the modern digital infrastructure paradigm to leverage data sovereignty, accelerating the pace at which industries can experiment with quantum computing and supporting the reduction of energy usage.
