Summer is here, and Quartz Solar is now better than ever! The leading AI solar PV forecast is forecasting intra-day and day ahead more accurately than ever before. So, what’s new? 🌤️ Satellite imagery – having used satellite imagery since the start, now the team at Open Climate Fix has squeezed down the delay at which we integrate the images into our forecasts, cutting errors by 20% ⬇️ over the first four hours. 💻 Longer horizons – PVNet, our most sophisticated model, is now forecasting further ahead - cutting errors by 10-30% ⬇️ for periods from eight hours to day ahead. ⚒️ Combined with probabilistic forecasts, regional forecasts and an easy-to-use API and Web UI, our users are telling us they love using Quartz! 💛 Join our growing list of users & try it out now: app.quartz.solar #SolarForecasting #EnergyForecasting #RenewableEnergyForecasting #Forecasting #SatelliteImagery #PVForecast
Open Climate Fix
Services for Renewable Energy
Building AI solutions for a greener electricity grid.
About us
Open Climate Fix is a non-profit research and development lab. We build AI solutions helping the electricity grid to transition to 100% renewable power generation. Our first focus was our solar forecasting product, Quartz Solar, which is used by National Grid Electricity System Operator in the UK and has halved their forecasting errors. Every part of the organisation is designed to maximise climate impact, such as our open and collaborative approach, our rapid prototyping, and our attention on finding scalable & practical solutions. By using an open-source approach, we can draw upon a much larger pool of knowledge and skills than any individual company, so combining existing islands of knowledge and accelerating progress. Have questions? We’d love to hear from you. [email protected]

Happy #NetZeroWeek! If you're looking for a way to have a positive climate impact, how about getting involved with our open-source and open-data community? Last month, we held our first online event introducing our open community. If you couldn't attend, we have great news! The event is now live on our Open Climate Fix YouTube channel. During the event, we broke down exactly how you can get involved and what activities are on offer, so if you're interested in shaping climate impact, then make sure you check out the recording. https://lnkd.in/enq_YFRG #OpenSource #OpenData #OpenSourceCommunity #AIforgood #AIforclimate

Two weeks ago, we had our incredible summer getaway to Snowdonia for a refreshing break and team bonding. It was all about connecting with each other, exploring nature, and unwinding without laptops. A special thanks to Sehaam Cyrene PCC for her fantastic team-building session. A perfect way to recharge and strengthen the team spirit! #TeamBuilding #SummerGetaway #WorkLifeBalance #Wales

❓Can AI supercharge the potential of solar power? The Turing and Open Climate Fix are working on a project to predict cloud cover and solar energy generation. With solar power set to become the largest form of electricity generation capacity globally by 2040, improving forecast accuracy is essential. A finalist in this year’s Manchester Prize, the Quartz Solar AI Nowcasting aims to predict cloud cover and solar energy generation more accurately – helping to manage the energy grid, cutting down the need for back-up power, reducing costs and ensuring a steady supply of electricity for our homes and businesses. 📖 Find out more, from Open Climate Fix-founders Dan Travers and Jack Kelly and the Turing’s Marc Deisenroth: https://bit.ly/3xOnXUS #ClimateChange #NetZeroWeek #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower

We're delighted to share that we were featured in National Grid ESO's recent Innovation Annual Summary! Working with AI Centre for Excellence Manager, Lyndon Ruff, our Solar PV Nowcasting project has successfully increased ESO's forecasting accuracy by around 40%. The success of this project has the potential to cement Great Britain as a leading innovator in the energy transition, as the Nowcasting tool could theoretically be adopted by numerous global electricity system operators. You can read more about our Solar PV Nowcasting tool on page 18 of the report. 🧑💻⬇️ https://lnkd.in/e3JU_gPt #SolarForecasting #SolarEnergy #AIforgood #Energytransition #RenewableEnergy Charlotte Horne Anna Carolina Tortora

Coming up in an hour, if you've got any questions for the team about our #opensource #solar and #wind #forecasting projects - how to contribute, why we did what we did, etc etc!
👋 Upcoming Community Event! Next Tuesday, we'll be running an office hour for our open community. Hosted by our tech team, we'll run through updates relevant to our projects, share news from the OCF ecosystem and highlight any new ways you can get involved in the community. You'll then have the opportunity to ask the team questions around community-related activity. This event will be perfect for you if ⬇️ ⚡️ You are new to open source and would like some help getting started. ⚡️ You've come across a code related issue or have an idea for a GitHub-based project you'd like to discuss with us. ⚡️ You're a researcher, academic or hobbyist who has a question about our data or code. 📆 Tuesday 2 July ⏰ 3-4PM BST 🧑💻 Zoom RSVP below 🎟️⬇️ https://lu.ma/qu137zhq

We were thrilled to exhibit at last week's Climate Innovation Forum, the flagship event of London Climate Action Week. It was a pleasure to connect with key players in the climate community and to share more about our mission; to develop cutting-edge AI solutions to help green the grid. Special thanks to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for the opportunity, and thank you to everyone who visited our stand! If you'd like to learn more about our work, reach out to us or head over to our website. https://lnkd.in/eRDpjtTN #LCAW2024 #CIF2024 #AIforgood #AIforclimate

Our customers are calling Quartz Solar the "most accurate solar PV forecast". You can try it for free here: https://app.quartz.solar/ Check it out now! #Solarforecasting #SolarEnergy #SolarEnergyGeneration #Grid #Forecast #PVForecast #Solar
More data 🟰 better decisions. 📈 Our #QuartzSolar forecast powered by #AI, produces not just expected solar generation, but also a probabilistic confidence level to help create a clearer picture for our users. Why is it important to include this data? 🤔👇 We found that millions of pounds can be saved by grid operators from using the #probabilistic boundaries. The extra guidance can help traders understand potential uncertainties, and grid operators set better reserve levels. Thank you to Brad Fulford, our Head of Product UI/UX, for creating this excellent breakdown for us! #SolarForecast #EnergyTech #AIinEnergy #RenewableEnergy #EnergyInnovation
