We are pleased to announce that energy suppliers have vowed to work together to replace 800,000 Radio Teleswitch (RTS) meters across the UK before the service is switched off next summer. The agreement follows a summit, organised by Ofgem, gathering energy suppliers and stakeholders to find a joint solution to the challenge of upgrading households from the ageing technology before the service ends on Monday 30 June, 2025. The RTS system, which uses radio signals to tell some electricity meters to switch between on or off-peak rates, is no longer viable – and without a meter upgrade, some affected homes, schools and businesses could be left without heating and hot water, or unable to turn off their heating. We are excited to launch our new consultation initiative, designed to address regulatory barriers to innovation in the retail market. Our goal is to enable innovation, bringing products to market that not only benefit consumers but also support our journey towards achieving net zero goals. We would particularly be interested in hearing from small to medium innovators looking to bring their product to market. For more information ⬇️ https://ow.ly/nPmC50TAYGL

The quarterly energy Price Cap will change from 1 today. The new #PriceCap is £1717. The level is based on the typical use of an average household on a supplier’s standard default tariff. It's a cap on the energy unit price suppliers can charge, not a cap on our total bills. If you use more, you will spend more. More on how this might affect you ⬇️ https://ow.ly/xt8x50TzLlP

A truly rare opportunity for someone looking to kickstart their policy career and gain invaluable experience rotating across the three organisations! 🍃 Delivering the future energy network. As more electric vehicles and other such assets come online, we need to have the systems in place to ensure that clean, affordable and secure electricity is flowing through the system. Strategic planning has a key role to play to provide certainty to industry and deliver the infrastructure needed. Strategic plans will identify what generation and network assets will be required, when and, most importantly, where. How do the various plans fit together and what is Ofgem’s role in strategic planning? Tap or click below to read how our Director for Energy System Design and Development outlines what to expect ⬇️
