Today was an important day as the UN adopted a Pact for the Future and a Declaration on Future Generations! The Pact provides a roadmap for countries to work together on the big issues of our time. The Declaration includes the proposal for a UN special envoy for future generations. But now these agreements need to be put into action. "Future generations will judge us not by our words but by our actions" -President of the Republic of Namibia. Our Well-being of Future Generations Act in Wales requires the public sector to act for the long term and in the interests for future generations. It is a model that other countries are looking at as an effective way to embed long term thinking in planning, policy and decision making. I want to credit the foresight and the hard work of Jane Davidson and Peter Davies who amongst others, led the development of the legislation in Wales, which is inspiring nations and regions around the world. And to acknowledge the dynamic leadership of Sophie Howe as the first future generations commissioner.

🌍 "What Wales is doing today, the world will do tomorrow" - those were the words of the UN when the Well-being of Future Generations Act was passed in 2015. We've put that legislation to work and we're proud of the progress, but there's still more to be done.
