About us
At Octopus, we’re entrepreneurs and we’re investors, on a mission to back the people, ideas and industries that will change the world. As entrepreneurs, we build our own businesses to address some of society’s biggest problems. Octopus Energy, our energy transition business, is the best example of this. As investors, we invest the £12.9* billion our clients have entrusted us with into the areas where we believe we can have the greatest impact. More than 78% of the £12.9* billion we manage is invested in line with three main themes: empowering people, revitalising healthcare and building a sustainable planet. At our core, we believe that how a company behaves is just as important as what it does. That’s why we chose to become an accredited B Corp (the equivalent of a Fairtrade coffee stamp but for companies) and to change our Articles of Association so that the interests of all our stakeholders – employees, customers, communities, environment and shareholders – are considered in every decision we make. Octopus Investments, Octopus Energy, Octopus Money, Australia, Seccl Technology, Aurora and Guardian Angel are all part of Octopus Group. * Octopus as at 31 March 2023 Funds Under Management data includes undrawn commitments, funds under advisory mandates and funds monitored. It also includes funds under the management of Octopus Renewables Limited.

What an incredible day yesterday at 🐙 Octopus Group accepting this award. I’m honoured to be recognised by such a fantastic organisation that I truly admire. It was wonderful to connect with the team, share ideas, and hear Chris Hulatt’s inspiring story of co-founding Octopus. I would also like to thank Justine Duggan for being so welcoming. Back to it today. My only focus is to get better and keep improving 📈 Dan GW Power-Safe Ltd C3 Group

At our core, we are a group of entrepreneurs and investors on a mission to back the people, ideas and industries that will change the world. Our venture capital business, Octopus Ventures, plays a key role in this mission. It actively invests in people and teams, from an idea on a page through to the later stages of growth, providing capital, expertise, and partnership along the way. Today we are sharing the exciting news that Erin Platts will join Octopus Ventures as CEO in January. Erin has two decades of experience working at the intersection of finance and the technology start up ecosystem. She was previously the CEO of Silicon Valley Bank UK, where she scaled the business to more than 800 people and cemented its role as the bank of choice for tech start-ups, and currently heads up HSBC Innovation Banking. Erin’s wealth of knowledge and expertise make her the ideal fit to champion the businesses we back, and lead Octopus Ventures to its next phase of growth. Welcome to the Octopus family, Erin! https://lnkd.in/eETvstQ9

What a way to celebrate Earth Day! 🌍 The government’s ban on plastic wet wipes is fantastic news, addressing the cause of so much environmental damage. Over the past three years Octopus employees and our charitable foundation, Octopus Giving, have been working hand in hand with Thames21, the leading waterways charity dedicated to putting healthy rivers back at the heart of the community. Today’s ban is testament to the hard work from both organisations and is a great example of what can be achieved when companies are able to offer expertise and not simply money to charitable causes. We’re hugely proud of the team at Thames21 and the impact their charity has had on our environment. #EarthDay
📣 CAMPAIGN VICTORY! We did it! The Government has announced plans to ban the sale of wet wipes containing plastic. This is a big win for the River Thames and its wildlife. Thames21 has been tirelessly campaigning to ban plastic in wet wipes for many years. We have worked with volunteers to build evidence, told the story to the media, engaged with the Government and worked with partners to push for change. A massive thank you to all our volunteers, supporters and partners (Port of London Authority, Tideway London and Octopus) who helped to make this happen. Thanks also to our wider team and Thames River Watch team to help collect data to lobby for change. Thames21 CEO Chris Coode said: “This significant news is a testament to the power of collective action and the unwavering dedication of our volunteers, team and partners. This victory is a crucial step towards protecting the health of the River Thames and its wildlife, as it will help to stop the introduction of microplastics into the environment. However, we realise that it is not the panacea and there is more work to be done. “Manufacturers now need to create plastic-free alternatives. Water companies must invest further in our sewage infrastructure so that it relies less on sewage overflows and install more screens to prevent wet wipes entering the environment. Consumers need to dispose of their non-plastic-based wet wipes correctly; bin it don’t flush it! “We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported us in this journey – your contributions have been instrumental in achieving this landmark success.” Read full press release here: https://lnkd.in/ebhdMpe8 #plasticbannedinwetwipes #healthyrivers #tacklingplasticpollution #riverthames #rivers #thames21 #riverrestoration
