The place to plan for death and find support after a loss. (Formerly known as Guardian Angel)

About us

When most people think about planning for death and dealing with loss, they think about wills, lasting power of attorney forms, life insurance, probate. But underneath these cold processes is something much more human - the question of ‘What will you leave behind?’. It’s a chance to share more than just money: leave voice notes, playlists, recipes, and videos. Not something to be rushed, but to be added to as life changes. Co-created in conversation with friends and family.

We’re excited to announce our Autumn Campaign is now LIVE! 🎉 You may know Octopus Legacy as a free wills provider, offering online, over-the-phone, and in person will writing services. But did you know we also run a bi-annual legacy campaign? 📈 Since launching our first campaign back in January 2022, we’ve helped our charity partners increase the number of gifts through our service by 83%. Today we're launching our Autumn legacy campaign: Your will could do wonders, with 86 charities across the UK, such as ActionAid, World Vision, St Christopher's and The Scouts. The campaign is all about inspiring people to think about the positive impact a gift in their will can make, especially when it’s left to a charity doing great work they care about. The “Your will could do wonders” logo centres around a hand-drawn ‘will’, nodding to our ability to personalise this important document and make it your own. Alongside our tailored assets to help promote the campaign, we also help extend reach through our digital ads, affiliate partnerships, and corporate partnerships. 🐙 If you’d like to find out more about getting involved in our Spring 2025 campaign, email us at [email protected]

🗞️ Big news – we’re very proud to announce that Octopus Legacy is now officially a B Corp. We’re leading the way as the UK’s largest B Corporation certified estate planners. We were founded with a mission to ease some of the hardest times in a person’s life, by improving the process of planning for death and finding support after a loss. We do this by being more empathetic, more human, and providing a helping hand for people who need it – not creating a headache at an already difficult time. As an officially certified B Corporation, we join an amazing community of 2000 companies in the UK that do business differently: who care for their customers, the planet, and their communities on another level. To give an idea of how we got here – here are 8 things we’re really proud of (one for each tentacle). 🐙 We’ve helped over 300,000 people plan for death and find support after a loss – with a goal to help a million within the next year. We’ve saved families months of work, hundreds of pounds and stress when they need it the most. Our job is to give them space to focus on what is important.  🐙 Our team (comprising 60% women and people from a wide range of backgrounds), brings together unique personal and cultural experiences of loss that help us to make this tough time easier for our customers.  🐙We’re combining cutting-edge technology and a human approach to breathe life into estate planning and bereavement support.  🐙 Through our will writing services and campaigns, we've helped boost the legacy income for over 250 charity partners. 🐙 We’re proud to democratise access to estate planning through our bi-annual free will writing campaigns, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to build their legacy. 🐙 We have a team that doesn’t just deliver a service, but chooses to go above and beyond every day: whether that’s writing letters to customers, visiting customers’ homes to help them record videos for their loved ones, or providing emotional as well as practical support. 🐙 All team members have the opportunity to invest in the Octopus Group – we’re building this together, and are incentivised to deliver for our customers. 🐙 We may work in death – but we celebrate life too. In such a difficult space, we prioritise the emotional and practical support of our team by offering health insurance, bereavement support, opportunities to work from anywhere in the world for 4 weeks a year, unlimited holiday days and more. What do death and divorce have in common? It turns out – a lot.  1. Both are ‘taboo’ topics, despite being common parts of the human experience.  2. Both involve a rollercoaster grief journey. 3. Both involve a large amount of admin, when you need it the least. Learn more on how the worlds of death and divorce have more in common than you might think, some of the things you might want to think about if you’re going through a divorce, and more, on the latest episode of The Divorce Podcast with our founder Sam Grice, here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eFp4TgiW

In the latest episode of The Divorce Podcast, host Kate Daly was joined by Sam Grice, Founder of Octopus Legacy to talk about the two D's - death and divorce. In 2017, Sam's Mum died suddenly in a car accident. The process that followed was overwhelming, and the grief was made much harder by the tedious hours of paperwork and legal admin that came after a loss. Sam founded Octopus Legacy to make life easier for those left behind after someone dies. Kate and Sam begin this episode by looking at Sam's story. They explore the concept of grief and how it connects with the loss felt during a divorce or separation, as well as other aspects of the emotional journey. They look at the legal steps required after loss and the idea that you need to update your will whenever there's a life change, like a divorce or separation. The episode is available to listen to on all platforms, including the podcast website. https://lnkd.in/eqvCbAZS #DivorcePodcast

The Chartered Institute of Fundraising Convention kicks off in two weeks on the 3rd & 4th of July. We're proud to say we will be a Sponsor on both days, stationed in the Churchill Room on the ground floor at the QEII centre. After being highly commended at the Smee & Ford Awards in April for Digital Innovation in Legacy Giving, for our free will marketing campaigns, you will find us sponsoring the Strategy, Innovation & Income Generation track. There will be 5 industry talks per day around innovation in fundraising, which we'll be introducing. We also have loads of fun activities planned on each day, along with an array of freebies, so do come and join us and say hello! If you haven't got your ticket yet, don't worry - there are still some available, but ticket sales end this Friday, so be quick! 👇 https://lnkd.in/eUrRiBKM
