🌟 Meet Kasia, one of our newest Oceaneers! 🚀 💻 What sparked your interest in the tech field, and what motivates you to stay? I have always been naturally interested in the technical nature of things. I originally graduated in Mechanical Engineering and spent the first few years of my career working in industrial factories. I made a career switch in 2016, and since then I have been working in various types of IT companies. What sparked my interest in the IT field was that it’s a very fast-growing area. Nowadays, almost every company has some kind of connection to IT. It’s a very dynamic environment with an ocean of possibilities that never gets boring. 💼🌊What do you do at OTG and what impact do you want to make? As a Development Manager, my role is to enable development teams to deliver OTG’s products. I support teams and individual contributors in being most productive at their work, build teams via hiring, onboarding and team building, and identify and implement process improvements. I focus on creating an environment where everyone uses their strengths to multiply the team’s results. 🌟 Who is Kasia outside of OTG? There are few things besides technology that make my heart beat faster 🙂 My true passion is dancing. I spend at least a couple of hours a week on dance training or other activities that improve my dancing. When I dance, I forget about the whole world, and it makes me truly happy. Besides that, you can find me riding my scooter, watching musicals or, if I have more time, travelling. I have visited six continents, and visiting the 7th is on my bucket list 🐧 #Oceaneerslife #jointheteam #tech #it #womenintech #diversity

Here are some key takeaways from Dr. Loukas Barmparis - President & Director at Safe Bulkers Inc, on building a lasting workforce in the maritime industry from Posidonia 2024! 🌊 🔸Continuous development and training, especially with the introduction of new technologies, is crucial. 🔸Treating seafarers like family helps develop loyalty and commitment. 🔸Engaging with potential seafarers from a young age and offering incentives and support in their locations and on board can help attract and retain talent. 🔸Effective communication and motivation are key to building a lasting and dedicated workforce. 50 years! Congratulations to WISTA UK on this anniversary and your celebration, hosted at the International Maritime Organization London yesterday. Thank you to Monica Kohli, Jucilla Walters MSc, BA Hons, Sue Terpilowski OBE and all the WISTA UK organisers for bringing together interesting speakers, panels - and participants! Our own Ocean Technologies Group was one of the sponsors so I was proud and happy to join the conference and reception along with my Oceaneer colleagues, Raal Harris and Blanca Garranchan. The panel sessions on #media, #ESG and #decarbonisation and speeches from the IMO Secretary General, Arsenio Dominguez and others were opportunities to listen, update, observe and reflect. Monica Kohli presented awards to Nusrat Ghani, Katy Ware and Guy Platten to recognise their support for #diversity in shipping. The reception was a wonderful chace to meet new people and catch up with maritime friends. I’m always conscious that it’s a privilege to attend events. There are many people who I wish could come too and many reasons why we might not get to industry conferences & seminars - so for anyone who’s interested but couldn’t go, some personal reflections on the WISTA UK 50th event will follow in the comments. Please share your insights too.

We are delighted to announce the opening of our new regional office in Manila! This strategic expansion underscores our dedication to enhancing services and support for our partners in the world’s largest seafarer supply region. It will also play a vital role in attracting top talent in the area. This announcement builds on our continued focus on the Philippines and follows our extensive involvement in the Philippines' Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA - DOTC)’s Day of the Seafarer celebrations last month. We were honoured to be able to present our solutions and lead workshops for seafarers, educators, crewing agencies, and key administrative bodies, including the Philippine Ports Authority. We look forward to the opportunities this new office will provide to grow existing partnerships, build new relationships, and connect with the impressive pool of maritime and technology talent in Manila. Ready for inspection insights? Watch this clip! Our webinar on inspection excellence highlighted the key challenges of maritime inspections and the best practices for ensuring vessel readiness. 🔹 Advance Notice: Ideally, crews should receive 10 days' notice before an inspection to organise and prepare thoroughly, covering all documentation and checklists. 🔹 Work Coordination: During peak operations like cargo loading, clear communication between the Master, Crew, and Inspector can alleviate stress and streamline the inspection. 🔹 Transparency Matters: Providing a detailed defect list and planned repairs demonstrates proactive maintenance and builds trust with inspectors. 🔹 Inspector’s Mission: Inspectors aim to verify operational integrity, not just find faults. Being honest about issues can prevent misunderstandings and lead to a smoother inspection process. For more in-depth strategies, explore our full webinar recap. 🔗 Read the full article https://bit.ly/49AUWJm #RightShip #SIRE2_0 #PSCinspection
