Estimates show that over half of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP) depends on nature. How can we use finance to help tackle the sharp declines in biodiversity across the world and build a resilient future for people and the planet? 🌎 In collaboration with Plan Vivo Foundation and goodcarbon we’re pleased to launch a new report ‘Credit where Credit’s Due: Identifying the Core Principles of a High-Integrity Biodiversity Market.’ The report identifies three core principles for financing crucial nature protection and restoration initiatives, also known as a ‘High Integrity Biodiversity Market’: 1️⃣ Clear communication on the biodiversity assessment methodology and outcomes 2️⃣ Integrated community engagement and participation 3️⃣ Fair and equitable pricing. To reverse nature loss by the global target of 2030, companies we need to spend an estimated $600-800 billion, annually. The emerging biodiversity credit market offers us onea way to achieve restoration and protection of nature at scale and requires building a market based on trust and integrity and include transparent, robust and equitable projects. Read the full report here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eKc_wzv9 About the Survey: In December 2023, Blue Marine, Plan Vivo Foundation and GoodCarbon led a market survey aimed at establishing the private sector’s level of interest and understanding of the emerging biodiversity credit market. The survey revealed companies' motivations to purchase biodiversity credits, important attributes within a credit and drivers behind incentive to pay more for credits. SyAqua acquired Primo Broodstock which will bolster SyAqua’s portfolio and open new market opportunities. We are thrilled with our latest accomplishment with the acquisition of Primo Broodstock USA, a company known for its pioneering work in the development of Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) and disease-tolerant genetic lines. With this acquisition, we not only aim to improve our current portfolio but also to explore new market opportunities and, most importantly, to protect strain security with another genetic nucleus and broodstock multiplication facility in the USA. Primo was the first to leverage SPF populations out of Ecuador specifically to address disease challenges in major markets like Mexico and China. This acquisition allows us to tap into robust and well-established genetic resources while significantly expanding our current US facilities (Genetic Nucleus and Broodstock Multiplication). This acquisition will allow us to increase our supply of US broodstock production capacity by the end of 2024. Our targeted production potential is 230,000 per year. This acquisition will enhance our ability to meet the growing demand in major shrimp-producing markets. We continue to refine our biofloc-based raceway production technologies, known for efficiency and producing superior broodstock. This expansion, coupled with new state-of-the-art packing lines, will ensure stringent environmental control and top-notch product quality. Along with the integration, SyAqua now also has the potential to tap into new genetic stocks that have been developed over years through selective breeding and increases our potential opportunities to be more innovative and selective to create traits that have enhanced performance even in the most challenging production environments. Our long-term commitment to a balanced line genetic selection programme remains unwavering. We have consistently delivered some of the highest-performing broodstock globally. This strategic acquisition enriches our genetic resources, aligning with our vision of business sustainability and our commitment to managing the environmental impact of the blue economy, particularly in Asian shrimp farming. Our alliance with Ocean 14 Capital Fund strengthens our dedication to sustainable practices and bringing more innovative solutions in aquaculture. Stay tuned for more exciting developments as we continue to innovate and achieve greater heights ! #SustainableSolutions #SyAquaSuccess #ShrimpFarmingExcellence #bluebalanceassured #sustainableshrimptechnologies #syaqua #syaquaglobal #shrimpfarming #shrimphatcheries Ocean 14 Capital IntraFish Media AquaCulture Asia Pacific The Fish Site

Global fisheries and aquaculture production hit a new record high of 223.2 million tonnes in 2022, with aquaculture surpassing capture fisheries for the first time by producing an unprecedented 130.9 million tonnes of aquatic animal products, according to latest FAO report. The report projects a 10% increase in aquatic animal production and a 12% rise in consumption by 2032, driven by aquaculture expansion and fisheries recovery. However, challenges remain, including uneven regional growth, gender inequality, and concerns over meeting future demand. This matters because, more than three billion people rely on seafood as a vital source of protein. With the world population projected to pass 9.7 billion by 2050, the number of humans reliant on seafood is only set to rise, making the aquatic food system a crucial source of global nutrition and food security. According to FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, “transformation is essential” to ensure aquatic life continues to feed a growing population sustainably. Crucial to the aquatic food sector’s sustainable ambitions is the FAO’s Blue Transformation roadmap, which “outlines a vision to expand aquatic food systems and increase their contribution to nutritious and affordable healthy diets.” Read our featured article here: https://lnkd.in/eK7FZVKy This month, there are 35 items of news under the themes of Ocean Sustainability; Aquaculture; Carbon Capture & Sensors; and Emerging Preservation Technology each month, here are some of April’s highlights: · Sargassum seaweed threatens Caribbean ecosystems and economies · Ghost nets threaten Tioman Island's marine ecosystem · University of Glasgow secures £3m for aquaculture research · Offshore mariculture GHG emissions 40% lower than land-based: study · Colombian government allocates $9.6m to boost fisheries and aquaculture · Zooplankton could impact ocean-based CO2 removal strategies · Grosvenor buys first carbon credits from Terraformation mangrove project · Harnessing marine algae for eco-friendly plastic and fuel production · Seatrec's NASA-based tech powers autonomous ocean exploration · Wave energy to rival offshore wind in cost-effectiveness by 2030s To read the other articles, join the mailing list for our monthly newsletter.
