We have a vital group of staff who work hard behind the scenes to shape minds, pass on knowledge, and empower others – they are our educators, trainers, and mentors. They play a critical role in the development of individuals who join our teams. Whether they are guiding recruits through induction courses, ongoing professional development, supporting staff in practice, or delivering life-saving CPR education to the community, these dedicated professionals ensure that we are fully prepared to serve those in need. We want to thank them today for the important work they do every day. The impact they make extends far beyond the classroom, it echoes through every life saved and every patient helped by our staff. #WorldTeachersDay

We deliver urgent and emergency care through 999, 111 and patient transport services.
About us
North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust was established on 1 July 2006 with the merger of the Cumbria, Lancashire, Mersey Regional and Greater Manchester Ambulance Services, the aim being to provide the best possible ambulance and pre-hospital care service to the people of North West England. The Trust works with other partners to develop new ways of delivering emergency and urgent healthcare to the patient. The Trust will seek to minimise unnecessary emergency hospital admissions through the provision of suitable alternative pathways of patient care and by working with our NHS partners. We will strive for patients to receive appropriate care and experience from consistently getting the right response, first time, in time and in the right place. The service covers an area of over 5,400 square miles with a population of over seven million people. The Trust employs over 5,100 staff. Almost 1,000 emergency and non-emergency vehicles operate in the region. Over one million emergency calls are received each year. In the North West, NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

As the colder months approach, the risk of common ailments often increases. We have put together a series of Reels to help you with such concerns. First up is Paramedic and Chair of our Race Equality Network Wes Proverbs. He shares tips on preventing skin irritations and highlights the subtle differences in how rashes can appear on darker skin tones.

We received over 1.5 million 999 calls to our urgent and emergency service last year alone - we hope that you are never in a position in which you need to call 999. The service is for patients who are seriously ill or injured or whose life is at risk, for example, a traumatic head injury, severe loss of blood, chest pains, a fall from height, severe burns and scalds, a stabbing or shooting, or loss of consciousness. If you do find yourself needing to make that dreaded 999 call, we’re aware that this can be worrying and distressing but knowing what to expect will help make sure you’re prepared. We are here for you 24/7 which is why we’ve created this A-Z of using the service which will help provide you with some handy information. https://lnkd.in/ebUAUMtS

Yesterday, we held our Annual General Meeting and Ambulance Community Day and despite the torrential rain, hundreds of people came to meet us at the Werneth Suite in Oldham. We were joined by students from Oldham College as well as other local schools, community group representatives, and members of the public who wanted to find out more about the ambulance service. Thank you to everybody who braved the downpours to join us, we hope you enjoyed the day. If you entered our competition on the day, we will be drawing the winner this week and we will be in touch, good luck.

👏 Congratulations to all our staff in Cumbria and Lancashire who were presented with awards for long service yesterday. 🎖️We present medals to staff from all areas from the trust who have reached 20, 30, 35 and 40 years of service, as well Queen's and King's medals for service and good conduct. 🤜 Almost 2000 years of service was recognised. A fantastic achievement!

Last winter, we received over 8,000 falls-related calls, but not all of these required an ambulance. Our frontline teams have been expanding their knowledge in falls, frailty, and medication management to help reduce the number of calls we get for slips and trips this winter, saving our lines for life-threatening emergencies. When the Integrated Contact Centres (ICC) call handler vacancies become live in the coming months, we want you to feel as ready as possible to apply, that is why we have a pre-employment programme (PeP) to help guide you through the process. Our PeP is for people who are currently out of work or looking for a career change to develop the skills and experience necessary to move closer to a successful career. Training covers what being a call handler entails, communication tips, placement exposure, and help with application and interview preparation. On completion of the programme, you are offered a guaranteed interview for the positions available. We have got some open day sessions coming up in October which you must attend if you would like to register for our PeP. https://lnkd.in/e762NjcH For more information and how to book visit:

Earlier this week John Romano visited Burnley station with his partner Janice to meet crew Paul and Helen to say thank you for the care they provided and getting him to hospital so quickly after he suffered a heart attack in February. It's great to hear John is back at work after having a pacemaker fitted!
